What is the Alumni Council?
The SLCC Alumni Council is the governing body of the SLCC Alumni Association. It is made up of former SLCC students and community members interested in the success of Salt Lake Community College, its students, and its alumni. It is lead by a president and a vice-president and staffed by a full-time Alumni Director.
What does the Council do?
Members of the SLCC Alumni Council work to support the mission of SLCC Alumni Association, which is to create and cultivate relationships with current and future alumni for the purpose of strengthening SLCC’s role of supporting students, the community, and economic success. The Council does this by planning and participating in various events, activities, and fundraisers to benefit students.
What is the time requirement on an individual Council member?
Members of the SLCC Alumni Council are expected to attend an 1 1/2 hour-long lunch meeting once a month. At these meetings, the Council discusses upcoming events, plans for new events, and makes assignments to carry out tasks.
Council members will also serve in an executive position on one of the six committees. The committees will be led by two Council members and staffed by two to three Advisory Board members.
What kind of a voice does an Alumni Council member really have?
Recently, the Alumni Association revised its bylaws to give much more power to members of the Alumni Council. The Council was separated into two groups: the Alumni Council and the Alumni Advisory Board. The Alumni Council is made up solely of former students of SLCC and interested community members. The Alumni Advisory Board is made up of representatives from different departments of the College. In effect, the Council will be the visionary body and the Board will advise the Council of the feasibility of its ideas and carry them out to the best of its abilities.
What is the length of service for an Alumni Council member?
An Alumni Council member is asked to serve for individual terms of two years. At the end of the two-year term, the member can be nominated to retain his or her seat.
