Directions to Miller Campus | SLCC Interpreter Training Program
1. What is the difference between the Fast Track Program and the Interpreter Training Program (ITP)?
The difference between the Fast Track Program and the Interpreter Training Program is that the ITP is a 2 year degree program that provides the fundamental foundation for individuals who have language skills but no interpreting experience. The Fast Track program is a non-credit program designed for working interpreters to advance their skills and certification.
2. Do I qualify for the Fast Track Program?
If you do not meet these criteria you can apply and will be considered on a case by case basis
3. What is the cost of the Fast Track program?
The program is grant funded through the Public Service Commission and is free to all students. Continued funding is based on student attendance, commitment and grade performance.
4. How many classes do I have to take?
There are no minimum course requirements. Students can enroll in one course or take multiple courses. Pre-requisite courses are required for non-certified interpreters
5. Can I meet with a mentor?
Mentoring is offered in two ways. To meet with a language mentor individuals can attend the open lab. If individuals would like to meet with an interpreter mentor there is a course CEAS 0300 Practice of Interpreting that is designed for one-on-one mentoring.
6. How long does it take to become certified?
The length of time it takes to become certified varies on the individuals skill, and time commitment. In general the Fast Track Program is designed to be a one-year program for those who are attempting to achieve Utah Professional Level Certification.
