Bruins Fall in Championship Game The day started with Salt Lake beating College of Southern Nevada 4-2. Lindsey Palmer struck out ten batters allowing three hits. Tara Bendt was 2-4 with a double and Dani Ibrahim knocked in one run with a double and Lisa Riches picked up two runs with a RBI single. The win put Salt Lake into the championship game against CSI; Salt Lake needed to win two games to advance to the national tournament. The Bruins brought the bats scoring 11 runs while Lindsey Palmer struck out 14 batters to force an IF game. Jasey Jensen was 2-3 and Lisa Riches drove in two runs. However Salt Lake ran out of steam in the IF game allowing 21 runs on 20 hits and committing seven errors. Salt Lake ace Lindsey Palmer ran out of gas throwing 35 innings over three days. The lone bright spot was a solo home run by Lindsey Palmer. Salt Lake finishes an impressive season with a 43-10 record overall and ranked in the top five in the NJCAA. Sophomore pitcher Lindsey Palmer finished the year 29-2 with 309 strikeouts and a 0.90 ERA. Brooke Olson, Jasey Jenson, Tara Bendt and Lindsey Palmer were all name First Team All Region. Tara Bendt was named the SWAC Player of the Year and Lindsey Palmer was named the SWAC Pitcher of the Year. Head Coach MaryKay Amicone was named the SWAC Coach of the Year. SLCC 4 SLCC 11 SLCC 1 CSI edges Salt Lake in Semi-Final Match-up Salt Lake will now face Southern Nevada at 11:00 on Bruin Field, the winner will move on to play in the championship game against Southern Idaho. SLCC 1 Olson Leads Salt Lake to Victory No. 5 Salt Lake battles conference rival College of Southern Idaho tomorrow at 2:30 in the undefeated game, the winner moves on to the championship game on Saturday. # 5 SLCC 5 Softball Ready’s for the Region 18 Showdown Lindsey Palmer struck out 12 batters in game one allowing no runs to earn her 26th win of the year. Tara Bendt was 3-4 with two RBI’s and her 23rd stolen base of the year. Jasey Jensen finished 3-5 at the plate with her 16th and 17th double of the year. Salt Lake committed three errors in the game two 4-1 loss. Erica Park takes the loss going five innings allowing three earned runs. Tara Bendt continued her success at the plate going 2-3 with a RBI. No. 4 Salt Lake gears up for the Region 18 Tournament. The Tournament is a double elimination format with the winner earning a berth to the NJCAA National Tournament held in Plant City Florida. #4 SLCC 7 #4 SLCC 1
Lindsey Palmer allowed two hits in seven innings while she struck out nine batters on her way to her 25th win of the season. Tara Bendt led the way at the plate going 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Mindy Schvaneveldt hit a solo home run her first of the year. Salt Lake took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning until Nevada got hot and scored all seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kara Bendt takes the loss going five innings allowing two hits with eight strikeouts. Tara Bendt continued to wreak havoc on the base paths going 4-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Salt Lake finished with 11 hits leaving eight runners on base. No. 4 Salt Lake and College of Southern Idaho meet again for another two game set beginning at noon (PST) in Henderson Nevada. #4 SLCC 4 #4 SLCC 3
Lindsey Palmer (24-0) threw a one hit gem in the first game beating CSI 2-0. In the game she had eleven strikeouts and drew the bases loaded walk to score the second run. Brooke Olson drove in a run while going 2-4 at the plate and Jasey Jensen added another double to her tally. The second game was a 9-1 five inning run rule game, which saw Salt Lake connect on 11 hits. Tara Bendt was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with four RBI's and Lisa Riches finished 2-3 with three RBI's hitting her 15th double of the season. Erica Park picks up her seventh win of the season allowing one run on four hits. No 4 Salt Lake CC (38-6, 30-4) wraps up the regular season at Southern Nevada next weekend April 25th and 26th. Then the Bruins gear up for the Region 18 Conference Tournament on May 1st thru 3rd at Bruin Field. Salt Lake receives the number one seed and will face the winner of the four and six seed.

Kara Bendt pitched five innings to get the win in the second game allowing one run on four hits; Palmer picks up the save throwing two innings. Jasey Jensen hit a two RBI double and Kara Bendt drove in the other runs. No. 4 Salt Lake looks to extend their 16 game winning streak against #17 Southern Idaho tomorrow in a double header starting at noon at Bruin Field. Salt Lake CC Softball Moves Up One Spot in NJCAA Polls No. 4 Salt Lake CC Bruins (34-6) take on conference rival #17 College of Southern Idaho Eagles (38-15). The Eagles are coming off a disappointing loss to Snow College and are four games behind Salt Lake for first place. Games one and two begin on Friday April 18th at 1 pm the series concludes on Saturday April 19th at noon. All games are held at Bruin Field on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.

Dani Ibrahim was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with an amazing six RBI’s. Jasey Jensen finished 3-4 with a double and a triple. In the last game of the series Salt Lake won 11-2, Dani Ibrahim continued to lead the way with a 3-3 showing at the plate. She connected on three triples to go along with five RBI’s. Erica Park hit a three run home run and got the start on the mound going three innings. No. 5 Salt Lake (34-6, 26-4) takes their 14 game winning streak into a showdown with second place #13 College of Southern Idaho (38-15, 22-8). The four game series is set to begin on Friday April 18th at 1 pm. Lindsey Palmer gets her 21st win and remains undefeated throwing her fifth no hitter of the year. Brooke Olson smashed a Grand Slam in the third and Tara Bendt was 2-3 with three RBI’s. Game two was a 14-0 five inning run rule game. Kara Bendt threw four one hit innings with six strikeouts and Jessie Cozzens threw one inning allowing no hits and striking out two. Lisa Riches was a perfect 2-2 with three RBI’s, a double and a homerun. Amy Broadbent connected on two hits in three at-bats with two RBI’s. No. 5 Salt Lake (32-6, 24-4) concludes the four game series tomorrow against Colorado Northwestern with game one starting at noon. Game 1 R H E Game 2 R H E Salt Lake Softball Breaks the Top Five No.5 Salt Lake hit the road this weekend for a four game series against Colorado Northwestern in Rangley, Colorado. Salt Lake looks to maintain their three game lead in first place over Southern Idaho.

Lindsey Palmer picks up her 20th win of the season allowing three earned runs and striking out eight batters. The final game of the series was a tight 7-6 win for Salt Lake. Brooke Olson and Dani Ibrahim both blasted two run home runs to help secure the win. It was a team effort on the mound with Kara Bendt getting the win throwing three innings allowing two earned runs, Erica Park threw three innings allowing three earned runs and Lindsey Palmer gets the save striking out three batters in one inning of work. No. 6 Salt Lake (30-6, 22-4) heads to Rangley Colorado to face Colorado Northwestern in a four game set. SLCC 7 SLCC 7 Game one was a close 3-2 win for Salt Lake with Lindsey Palmer getting her 19th win of the season striking out nine batters. Lisa Riches drove in all three runs with a bases loaded double in the first. Erica Park got the start in the second game pitching five strong innings before giving Kara Bendt the ball to close the 4-1 win. Park opened up the scoring with a solo home run; Brooke Olson and Dani Ibrahim both picked up RBI's. No. 6 Salt Lake (28-6, 20-4 SWAC) and North Idaho meet again tomorrow at Bruin Field for a double header starting at Noon
Salt Lake continued to hit the ball connecting on 14 hits six in the first game winning 12-1. Lindsey Palmer stays perfect with an 18-0 record striking out nine batters in the process. Dani Ibrahim drove in five runs on a 2-4 day with a double and Jasey Jensen finished with a double and a triple with three RBI's. In game two Salt Lake stayed hot scattering 19 hits five of them going for extra bases. Kara Bendt gets the win pitching three innings with five strikeouts. Tara Bendt got hot going 4-5 with a two RBI double, Dani Ibrahim was 2-3 with a double and Lindsey Palmer finished 3-4 with a double. No.7 Salt Lake (26-6, 18-4) returns home for a showdown with last years SWAC tournament champions North Idaho College. Games one and two set for Friday, April 4th at 1 pm and game three and four begin on Saturday, April 5th at noon. Lisa Riches and Megan Staley both finished 2-3 at the plate. Game two came down to the bottom of the seventh when pinch hitter Koby Solorio smoked a single up the middle to score pinch runner Danielle Swopes from second. Kara Bendt pitched 3.1 innings allowing one earned run and Lindsey Palmer (16-0) gets the win pitching 3.2 innings allowing no hits. At the plate Palmer hit a two RBI double and Jasey Jensen finished 2-3. No.8 Salt Lake CC (22-6, 14-4) hits the road for a four game set against Snow College in Ephraim on March 28th and 29th. Freshmen Jasey Jensen was 3-3 on the day with two RBI’s and sophomore Dani Ibrahim was 1-3 with an RBI. Salt Lake had their chances in the second game leaving nine base runners on base and out hitting Nevada nine to seven. Erica Park takes the loss allowing seven hits and three runs. Lindsey Palmer was 2-3 and Brooke Olson finished 3-3 at the plate. Palmer One-Hits CSI In the first game Salt Lake won 9-0; Lindsey Palmer allowed one hit and had nine strikeouts in six innings of work taking her record to 13-0. Dani Ibrahim was 2-4 with two RBI’s; Lindsey Palmer blasted a 3-run home run and Mindy Schvaneveldt went 2-3. In game two CSI jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, which Salt Lake could not recover losing 9-6. Lisa Riches was 2-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI’s. Salt Lake (19-5, 11-3 SWAC) and CSI (23-10, 11-3 SWAC) battle again tomorrow for the rights to first place in the SWAC. Game one set to begin at noon followed by game two. SLCC 9 SLCC 6 Salt Lake Softball Sweeps Friday's games were 8-0 and 9-0 wins. In game one Lindsey Palmer picked up her eleventh win of the season not allowing a hit and striking out nine hitters. Tara Bendt was 3-4 with two stolen bases and Amy Broadbent was 2-2. Kara Bendt got the start in game two striking out five hitters. Erika Park drove in three runs and Megan Staley grabbed two hits in three at-bats. Salt Lake brought the bats to Saturday's games scattering 30 hits in two games. Game one was a 15-3 win; Lindsey Palmer stays undefeated striking out eight hitters in three innings. Salt Lake scored eleven runs in the second inning. Erica Park went 2-2 with three RBI's Lisa Riches hit a three run home run and Palmer hit a solo home run. The second game was a 24-3 win; Park gets her third win of the season. Amy Broadbent hit a grand slam finishing the day with six RBI's and Park had three hits and four RBI's. Salt Lake (18-4, 10-2) hits the road for a tough four game set in Twin Falls against College of Southern Idaho. SLCC 8 SLCC 9 SLCC 15 SLCC 24 The second game was a 12-6 loss to North Idaho. Kara Bendt gets her second loss on the season pitching three innings. Brooke Olson was 2-4 with a run scoring double and Mindy Schvaneveldt went 1-2 with two RBI's. The second game (4-3) came down to a go ahead home run in the sixth hit by North Idaho's Shay Craig. Kara Bendt took the loss allowing only two hits in four innings. Lisa Riches stayed hot going 1-3 with two RBI's and Amy Broadbent was 1-2 with a run scoring double. Salt Lake (13-3, 5-1) finishes the road trip with two more against North Idaho Saturday at noon PST. SLCC 9 SLCC 3 The final game of the series was a 10-4 win with Jessie Cozzens (1-0) getting the win and Kara Bendt (1-0) throwing 3.2 innings allowing one hit and striking out five batters. Lindsey Palmer pitched a no hitter winning her fifth game of the season striking out 13 batters over six innings of work. Brooke Olson was 3-4 with two home runs and 4 RBI's, Dani Ibrahim was a perfect 3-3 and Amy Broadbent hit a 2-run home run. Salt Lake Community College Softball today announced the signing of 10 top players from three states. Seven players from Utah including Sarah Clark (Springville H.S.), Stacie Graham (Viewmont H.S.), Marqi Gray (Taylorsville H.S.), Kylee Higgins (Layton H.S.), Reilee O'Brien (Weber H.S.), Shaynie Phillips (Bingham H.S.) and Kim Weese (Bountiful H.S.). Three out of state players include Erika James from Montpelier, Idaho (Bear Lake H.S.) along with Hayley Atiyeh (Bishop Gorman H.S.) and Jordyn McDonald (A-Tech H.S.) who both hail from Las Vegas, Nevada. Two other local Utah players committing to SLCC for the 2008-2009 season are Randee O'Brien (Weber H.S.) and Meranda Wood (Hunter H.S.). Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone is proud to welcome all of these players into the Bruin Softball program. “I am excited about this incoming class, they will compliment our returning players and are all outstanding student-athletes. I am excited to call all them Bruins.” said Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone Salt Lake Community College Softball is pleased to announce the verbal commitment of Tara Bendt to the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Tara was an All-Region 18 selection in 2007 and she led the Bruins in batting average with a .401 average and was 13-16 in stolen bases in 51 games. Salt Lake CC Softball Opens 2008 Season in Yuma In the second game of the night Salt Lake (1-1) face a tough Central Arizona team. Taking an early 2-0 lead however Salt Lake could not quiet the bats of Central and took an 8-2 loss. Tara Bent connected on two hits in four at bats for Salt Lake. The third game saw Lindsey Palmer (1-0) throw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts however the offence could not push a run across the play in a 0-0 tie with Pima College. Mindy Schvanveldt connected on the only hit for Salt Lake. The fourth game was a come from behind victory for Salt Lake (2-1-1) with a 5-4 win over Eastern Arizona. All five of Salt Lake’s runs came in the last two innings of the game. Brooke Olson stared the scoring with a 2 RBI double in the sixth and Lindsey Palmer was 2-3 with an RBI. Erica Park took the win for Salt Lake evening her record at 1-1. The last game of Friday night was against conference opponent College of Southern Nevada. Lindsey Palmer (2-0) took the mound and finished with 13 strikeouts in the 9-2 win for Salt Lake (3-1-1). Brooke Olson was 1-4 with a 2 RBI scoring single, Erica Park was 1-2 and Jasey Jensen drove in 2 runs. Salt Lake burned Nevada’s pitching for 10 hits and 9 runs. The final day Salt Lake (4-1-1) faced Glendale College, Erica Park got her second win of the season allowing four hits and one run to Glendale. Jasey Jensen caught fire with a 3-4 game scoring 3 RBI’s and Tara Bendt set the table going 3-4 with an double and two stolen bases. The final game of the seven game series saw Salt Lake facing Chandler-Gilbert College. Lindsey Palmer grabbed her 3rd win allowing two hits. Lisa Riches was 2-3 and Jasey Jensen was 1-3 with a triple. On the weekend, Salt Lake finished 5-1-1, Jasey Jensen led the team with 8 RBI’s and Tara Bendt was a perfect 4-4 on stolen bases. Lindsey Palmer finished the weekend with a 0.00 ERA, 38 strikeouts and held opponents to a .056 batting average. Erica Park leads Salt Lake with a .357 average and a 2-1 record on the mound. Salt Lake CC (5-1-1) hits the dirt again on February 15th and 16th in Grand Junction Colorado against Snow College and Mesa State College. Jasey Jensen and Brooke Olson are leaving after one season to play for the Utes. Lindsey Palmer will be playing for the University of Utah after spending two seasons at Salt Lake. Lindsey led the team in wins with a 19-7 record and finished with 193 strikeouts. She also batted .325 and drove in 45 runs. |
