SALT LAKE CITY (December 4, 2008)- In the final day of the Bruin Challenge the teams faced the 300 yard sprint, Ladder and Chin ups.  Erika James looked to win the overall title with Marqi Gray tight on her heals.

The first event for the day was chin ups, Abby Bowcutt ran away with the win doing 24.5 chin ups with Marqi coming in second with 19.  Team ICAND won the total team amount with 99 total chin ups. The next event was the five patter ladder drill.  Each member had to do lead with your right, lead with your left, Icky shuffle, Crossover and two in two out patterns.  Danielle Swopes won the event with a  time of 27.09, coming in a close second was Jordyn McDonald with a time of 28.16.

In the last challenge of the day a new event for the year, the 300 yard sprint.  The sprint consisted of two laps on the track.  Stacie Graham and Erika James battled it out for the title.  Staci set the mark at 53.31 seconds however Erika had the advantage of going last.  Erika surpassed Stacie’s mark by .02 tenths of a second (53.28).  The win the 300 yard challenge secured the overall challenge win for Erika.

In the team race, BAMF came into the day with a two point lead over ICAND.  BAMF struggled through the 300 yard sprint taking last in the team time.  With that mistake ICAND took control winning the overall challenge with 35 points to BAMF’s 33 points.

The 2008 Bruin Challenge was a big success with each team challenging each other mentally and physically.  With the bar being set higher in each event the 2008 Challenge looks to be a tough mountain to climb for the 2009 team.   No Bruin Team has ever backed down from a challenge and there are no exceptions for next year.

BAMF remains in the team lead after taking first in the relay race and second in the other two events.  The race for second place is down to a two point margin with ICAND in the lead.  Tomorrows events will determine the overall winners.  On tap for the final day is a new event maximum chin ups, a five pattern ladder run and the dreaded 300-yard sprint.

In the sit up challenge Jasey Jenson’s record of 107 sit ups was broken by Shaynie Phillips with 109 in 2 minutes.  Team ICAND once again came away with the overall victory with 557 total sit-ups combined.  Another record fell in the shoulder bridge challenge; Marqi Gray set the bar high holding the bridge for 9 minutes shooting past the record of 5:34 held by Lindsey Palmer.

The final activity of the day was a team balloon train race.  Each team had to hold balloons in between each member as they raced around the track.  After losing their balloon 3 times team BAMF surged ahead of the other teams to take the win.  Blue’s Clues finished second followed closely by ICAND.

After the second day of the Bruin Challenge team BAMF takes the overall team lead with 21 point effort but the race stays close with the two other teams only one or two points behind.  In the individual race Erika James took the lead (115) finishing in the top one or two in each challenge on day two.  Marqi Gray (112) stays a close second only 3 points behind Erika.  Rounding out the top three is Sarah Clark with 107 points.
