Allie Lunt

#3 Allie Lunt
“Allie’s quality minutes at the perimeter last season gained her experience that should prove to be invaluable.  We expect her to use that experience this year as a leader at both the offensive and defensive end of the court. Freshman: While in her first season with the Bruins Allie played in 31 games. She was 19 of 41 from the three point line and she had a total of 68 rebounds.

Personal:  Daughter of Dan and Janet Lunt. Allie is majoring in Meteorology.  One of her biggest accomplishments was when the team got second in SWAC Conference as well as playing college basketball. Some of her other hobbies other than basketball include snowboarding, and wakeboarding. She loves to hang out when not playing, or in class. 

Personal Motto: “Everything happens for a reason.”
Advice for freshmen: “Go all out, never let up.”

M Gilliam-Hicks

#10 Marquina Gilliam-Hicks
“Look for Quina to make a major impact this year.  She’s improved in every area of her game and is showing the type of intensity and leadership that we need from her for us to be successful.” – Coach Specketer

Freshman: While in her first season with the Bruins, Marquina played in 30 games. She had .452 shooting percentage. Marquina also had a total of 49 rebounds for the Bruins last season.

Personal: Daughter of Lawerence and Liz Hicks. Marquina hopes to become a high school match teacher and coach after she is done playing basketball. She was voted Most Improved player by her teammates last season. One of her biggest accomplishments is playing basketball and passing all of her classes. Marquina likes playing for SLCC because everyone is a family and supports one another.

Why SLCC? “I like the program and the coaches a lot.”

Dayna Burgess

#11 Dayna Burgess
“Dayna will help us at both the point guard and shooting guard positions this season.  She has terrific court sense and an innate feel for the game. We love that she’s back and when healthy and strong, it will be difficult to keep her off the court.” – Coach Specketer

Red-Shirt Freshman: While in her first season with the Bruins Dayna played in only 3 games because of a season ending  ACL knee injury. In those 3 games, she played 23 minutes and she had 1 steal.

Personal:  Daughter of Mark and Donna Burgess. One of her main goals this season is get a 4.0 both terms. Dayna was put on the Deans list for the 2007 fall term with a 3.78 GPA. Some of her other hobbies other than basketball include boating, shopping and 4-wheeling. Dayna also likes to hang out with her friends when not in school or at practice.

Personal Motto: “Impossible is nothing.”
Advice for freshmen: “Go all out because it flies by.” 

Kate Pawlowski #12 Kate Pawlowski
“Kate’s hard work and her desire to improve has been impressive.  The best part of her game is her quickness, her ability to create and defensive intensity.” – Coach Specketer

High School: While playing at Bountiful High; she played field hockey, soccer, track and basketball. She was the “Domino’s Player of the Week” once. Kate was also the High School Prep of the week and the Army Reserve Student-Athlete of the Year. Her soccer team were State Champions in 2006.

Personal: Daughter of Monica Starrett and Jeff Pawlowski. Her mom, Monica played basketball at the University of Utah. Kate wants to graduate with an Associates Degree and a 3.5 GPA. She loves to play other sports when not at practice or in class.  Some of her hobbies other than basketball include camping, boating and traveling.

Personal Motto: “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight; but the size of the fight in the dog.”

Why SLCC? “It was best suited for me.”

Mina Jovanovic #15 Mina Jovanovic
“Mina has tons of potential in the collegiate game. She is so long that it’s difficult to pass the ball around her defensively.  She’s quick and explosive to the rim and loves the medium game as well. Her will to win is infectious and she LOVES to compete. It will be hard to keep her off the floor.” – Coach Specketer

High School: While playing at Gimnazija, she played both volleyball and basketball.

Personal: Daughter of Dragan and Rihana Jovanovic. She is majoring in Economics and wants to become and economist after she is done playing basketball. Another hobby Mina has besides playing basketball is to go swimming.

Vanna Cox

#14 Vanna Cox
“Vanna has great energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the game.  As a point guard, she’s an excellent ball handler, whose quickness will get her to the rim and help create shots for her teammates.” – Coach Specketer

High School: While at Provo High, she played basketball, track and field and softball. She was awarded team MVP in track and field. She stated that her biggest accomplishment was becoming the first black female to become Student Body President at Provo High School.

Personal: Daughter of Keith and Tamara Cox. She is majoring in Television Broadcasting and she hopes to travel the world making a positive difference through broadcasting. Vanna hopes to capture the good things in life through film. Her hobbies other than basketball include break dancing, or any other type of dancing. When not at practice or in class Vanna likes to go hiking, long boarding and break dancing. 

Julie Douglas

#22 Julie Douglas
“As Julie continues to gain strength and endurance from last year’s knee injury, look for her to get playing time on the perimeter and possibly, in the post.  She’s a heady player that really understands and studies the game.”- Coach Specketer

Freshman: While in first season with the Bruins, Julie played in 22 games in which she had 48 rebounds, 3 steals and 10 blocks.

Personal:  Daughter of Randy and Kathy Douglas. Julie is majoring in Physiology of Exercise and she hopes to be a coach after she is done playing basketball. Julie made the President’s List Honor Roll with a 3.94 GPA in last year’s fall term. She also was awarded Academic All-American with an accumulative 3.86 GPA for 06-07 academic year, Julie hopes to be awarded the same title this year as well. Some of her hobbies other than basketball include playing softball, 4-wheeling, eating and swimming.

Personal Motto: “Everything works out in the end; if it hasn’t worked out it’s not the end.”
Advice for freshmen: “Work hard, but have fun.”

Amanda Hansen #23 Amanda Hansen
“As she improves her strength and stamina, Amanda’s ability to post hard and finish in the paint will get her significant minutes at the five spot this season.” – Coach Specketer

High School: Amanda joins the Bruins from Riverton High School, where she was a three-sport, four year letterman as a Silverwolf.  Amanda was a co-region MVP and First Team All-State basketball player her senior year.

Personal:  Daughter of Lyle and Pam Hansen. Amanda is majoring in Cosmetology, and she wants to own a chain of salons and style hair for famous people. Amanda hopes to be awarded Academic All-American this year. She made the President’s List Honor Roll during the 2007 fall term with a 3.84 GPA. Some of her other hobbies other than basketball include going camping, reading and styling hair.

Kelsey Sparkman

#24 Kelsey Sparkman
“The best part of Kelsey’s game is her versatility.  She has the size and skills to play a variety of positions, giving us some different options at both the perimeter and post. As she gains some experience, watch for her to play some significant minutes at both.” – Coach Specketer

High School: While playing at Weber High, she lettered in basketball and softball. She made 2nd team All-State and she made 1st team All-Region. Kelsey also competed in an all-star game.

Personal: Daughter of Dale and Pam Sparkman. Kelsey is majoring in Nursing and hopes to have her future career in the Nursing field. She made the high honor roll in high school, and she hopes to continue having good grades by maintaining at least a 3.2 GPA this year. Her favorite movie is the Dark Knight. When not playing basketball, she likes to be outside participating in activities with her friends and family.

Marci Grayer

#25 Marcilina Grayer
“I love Marcie’s commitment to training.  She’s athletic, is in great physical shape, and she plays so hard.  Plus, we really like how she loves to defend.” – Coach Specketer

High School: While playing at Copper Hills, she lettered in basketball, track and cross country. Marcilina was awarded the team MVP for two consecutive years in basketball and MVP in track for two years as well. She was on the honor roll all 4 years of high school.

Personal: Daughter of Jerry and Jobe Grayer. Jobe was a student-athlete at Washington State University. She wants to be a homicide detective after she is done playing basketball.  One of her biggest goals is to become better at offense. Marcilina also hopes to maintain a 3.8 GPA this year. Some of her hobbies other than basketball include sports and texting.

Nicole Brady

#30 Nicole Brady
“Nic’s improvement over the summer has her ready to make a major contribution to this year’s team.  She can do so many things that help to make a team successful.  She loves to board, has range to the three, and can finish in the paint.  We need her to have a big year.” – Coach Specketer

Freshman: While in her first season with the Bruins Nicole played in 30 games. She averaged 6.1 points a game and she had a 109 rebounds total at the end of the season.

Personal:  Daughter of Scott and Mary Brady. Nicole hopes to become a teacher and a coach after she is done playing basketball. She came to SLCC because of the good coaching staff and the winning tradition of the program. She hopes to maintain a 3.8 GPA or higher this year. 

Jana Rastovic #31 Jana Rastovic
“At 6’3”, Jana will give us a definite size presence in the paint.  She’s long and active offensively and as a lefty, gives us a different look at the block.”— Coach Specketer

High School: While at Gimnazya High, she participated in both basketball and handball.

Personal: Daughter of Dusan and Mira Rastovic. She is majoring in Management and she hopes to become a manager of a company after she is done playing basketball. Jana enjoys resting with a good book when she is not at practice or in class.

Amie Jensen

# 33 Amie Jensen
“Even as a freshman, Amie is a very solid, complete player.  She’s athletic, loves to rebound, has terrific court sense, and will find a way to contribute.” – Coach Specketer

High School: While playing at Weber High she lettered in softball and basketball. Academically, she received High Honors at Weber High.

Personal: Daughter of Stephen and Mary Jensen. Stephen played basketball at Casper College. She is majoring in Psychology and she wants to either be an FBI profiler or a school counselor after she is done playing basketball. Amie was a McDonalds All-American Nominee as a senior in high school and that has been one of her biggest accomplishments. She hopes be apart of the starting lineup this season for the Bruins. Some of her hobbies other than basketball include drawing, reading and swimming.

Tilisa Vakalahi #42 Tilisa Vakalahi
“T is a very active, strong post player who will be tough for opponents to keep away from the basket.  She constantly works for position and will battle anyone.”— Coach Specketer

High School: While playing at Taylorsville, she lettered in volleyball, basketball and track and field. She awarded MVP for her basketball team for three years. T made the all region team for 2 years and made 2nd Team All State in 2006.

Personal: Daughter of Villiami and Finau Vakalani. She is majoring in Business in which she hopes to use for her future career aspiration of starting her own business. T hopes to maintain all A’s and B’s this year. When not in school or at practice, she likes to sleep and watch T.V. Some of her hobbies other than basketball include texting and writing.
