Allie Lunt

#3 Allie Lunt
“Ali has all the necessary tools to be a real success at this level.  She has a ton of offensive weapons, but what we like most about her is her athleticism and how she loves to defend.” ~ Coach Specketer

Alex begins her freshman year of collegiate basketball at Salt Lake after leading the Payson Lions to a 2005 State Championship. Alex played soccer, softball, and basketball at PHS and earned Honorable Mention All-State status in basketball as a senior. She chose to become a Bruin because she “likes the coaches and the team, and it’s a great program.”

Marquina Gilliam-Hicks

#10 Marquina Gilliam-Hicks
“Quina has made huge strides in a very short amount of time.  She has tremendous potential and upside and is quickly fitting into the role of point guard.”~ Coach Specketer

Marquina attended three different high schools in four years, finishing at Layton Christian where she was named Region MVP and a First Team All-State player. Also spending time on the track and soccer field, Marquina maintained honor roll status and was a member of the National Honor Society all four years of high school.

Dayna Burgess

#11 Dayna Burgess
“As Dayna continues to regain her strength and shooting touch, look for her to share duties at the point guard and shooting guard positions.”~ Coach Specketer

Dayna joins high school teammate Amanda Hansen at Salt Lake for her freshman year of collegiate basketball. She is a former Salt Lake Tribune Prep Athlete of the Week and first team All-State and All-Region basketball player. Having also played soccer at RHS, Dayna graduated in the top 10 percent of her class.

Keisha Catten #14 Keshia Catten
“Cat is my favorite teaching quote.  She knows the right things; she does the right things; and she does the right things, right.  Consistently.  She’ll shoulder a ton of leadership responsibilities this year, especially on the offensive end.”~ Coach Specketer

Keshia averaged 8.3 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.1 rebounds as a freshman for Salt Lake, leading the Bruins in scoring twice. Her 53 made three-point shots in 2006-07 tie her for third all-time in Bruin women’s basketball history. She also shot a team-leading .897 percent from the foul line, missing only four attempts on the year. Off the court, Keshia earned recognition as a Distinguished Academic All-American and Academic All-Region player for maintaining a 3.9 GPA.

McKenzie Jessop

#15 McKenzie Jessop
“It’s difficult to explain how valuable Jess is to this team.  She’s such a solid, complete player and contributes in so many ways.  It will be difficult to keep her off the court.”~ Coach Specketer

McKenzie averaged 5.7 points and 3.8 rebounds in 22.7 minutes per game for the Bruins in her freshman season. She earned 17 starts and was fourth on the team in free throw percentage (.729). McKenzie was named an Academic All-Region player last season and is expecting even more on the court and in the classroom as a sophomore.

Julie Douglas

#22 Julie Douglas
“Julie is an in the trenches, blue collar type of player.  She dives on the floor, gets deflections, and shows absolutely no fear.  And, she has the size and skills to play a variety of positions for us.”~ Coach Specketer

Julie comes to Salt Lake all the way from Illinois as the first women’s basketball player from Nauvoo-Colusa High School to ever play college basketball. A three-sport athlete, she was a two-time All-Conference and All-Area basketball player. The salutatorian of a class of 44, Julie was on the honor roll at NCHS all four years.

Amanda Hansen #23 Amanda Hansen
“Despite being undersized, we expect Amanda to get it done in the paint.  She’s quick, strong, athletic, and loves to rebound.  Plus, she plays with a ton of heart.”~ Coach Specketer

Amanda joins the Bruins from Riverton High School, where she was a three-sport, four year letterman as a Silverwolf. Aside from her volleyball and track accolades, Amanda was a co-region MVP and First Team All-State basketball player her senior year. Her prep play was pivotal in leading Riverton to consecutive regional championships. Amanda also finished in the top 10 percent of her graduating class.

Michelle Pace

#24 Michelle Pace
“I’m excited for Michelle and a little anxious to see how she’ll respond to the “team leader” role this year.  Look for her to be our “go-to” and lead us in most every scoring and rebounding category.”~ Coach Specketer

In 20 starts as a freshman, Michelle averaged 7.7 points and 4.7 rebounds a game. She was third on the team in rebounding and second in blocks (10). Michelle was also one of two Bruins to be named a Distinguished Academic All-American. Aside from her classroom work, she’s improved her shooting and ball handling in the off season and is excited for another run in the national tournament.

McKenzie Jones

#25 McKenzie Jones
“KJ literally gets better everyday.  She works hard and shows an eagerness to learn, improve, and make those around her better.”~ Coach Specketer

The daughter of a former Univ. of Utah basketball player and one-time Weber State University coach, McKenzie comes to Salt Lake from Viewmont High School. While a Viking, she was recognized as a Region 1 First Team player and graduated with distinction. The Academic All-State player maintained high honor roll status for three consecutive years.

Nicole Brady

#30 Nicole Brady
“Nic’s ability to score inside, shoot the three and crash the offensive board makes her a constant threat on offense.  She’s a quick, explosive leaper with a tremendous amount of skill and upside.”~ Coach Specketer

Nicole, a former three-sport Uintah Ute, excelled at volleyball, basketball, and softball in high school. She led the Utes to a fourth place state basketball finish as a sophomore and a sixth place state volleyball finish as a senior. The two-time first team All-Region basketball player has two brothers also playing collegiate basketball, one at Utah Valley University and one at Snow College.

Krista Farr #32 Krista Farr
“No one worked harder than Krista this summer.  The result is a stronger, quicker, and more confident athlete and player.  She’s improved in every phase of the game and is ready to be a major contributor.”   ~ Coach Specketer

Krista returns to Salt Lake after averaging 5.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in 12.8 minutes off the bench as a freshman. She led the Bruins in scoring and rebounding twice on the year. The former high school McDonalds All-American nominee is ready to win another SWAC Championship and get another chance for a national title.

Katelyn Nistler

# 33 Katelyn Nistler
“Katelyn has worked extremely hard and continues to improve daily.  She has increased her foot speed at both ends of the court and understands the game as well as anyone.”~ Coach Specketer

Katelyn played in 17 games as a freshman for the Bruins, averaging 1.7 points and 1.4 rebounds in just over five minutes a contest. Experience gained, the chemistry major has gotten stronger in the offseason and improved her outside game. She’ll look to be an immediate contributor in Salt Lake’s success this season.

BreAnne Haslam #42 BreAnne Haslam
“Bre will provide us with some much needed experienced play in the paint.  She has a nice touch around the basket, posts hard at the block, and can really finish in the paint.”  ~ Coach Specketer

BreAnne joins Salt Lake after a freshman season at Westminster College. The elementary education major is a former 3-A All-State player from Morgan High School in Morgan, Utah. BreAnne is looking forward to continuing her basketball career at Salt Lake and helping the Bruins get to another national tournament.
