Unlimited opportunities are available for skilled hair stylists. People always want to look their best and that means your career prospects are looking very good.
There's only one way to learn barbering and cosmetology, and that's by doing it. SLCC provides students with a true-to-life salon environment with plenty of hands-on experience. Learning is approached on a personal basis with appropriate discussion and lectures.
As a Barbering/Cosmetology student at SLCC, you will study cosmetology which emphasizes learning to design hair and enhance beauty. You will receive instruction in the study of chemicals and how to maintain proper condition, color and curl of hair*. You will study current and past fashion trends to provide familiarization with cycles of hairstyles and designs. Instruction is given in basic make-up, manicuring, skin care and basic esthetics**. As a specialist, a graduate should expect post-graduate study/training in any of the above named specialties.
*Specializing in the study of Trichology (cutting, coloring, permanent waving and styling) is possible. **A Master Esthetics program is also available.
