Leonard Pitts Jr.
Leonard Pitts Jr. won the Pulitzer Prize for a series of articles he wrote in 2003 for The Miami Herald that were described as “fresh, vibrant columns that spoke, with both passion and compassion, to ordinary people on often divisive issues.”
Pitts was born in 1957 in Orange County, California. At age 15 he began taking classes at the University of Southern California and four years later he graduated summa cum laude with an English degree. He started writing for the national black entertainment tabloid Soul. He has written for numerous national magazines and newspapers.
