Student Relief Funds

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) signed and returned the Certification and Agreement and provided assurances to the US Federal Department of Education that the institution intends to use at least 50% of the CARES Act funds for emergency grants to students on April 10, 2020.

Three separate legislations have been passed to provide Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to Salt Lake Community College. These include the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed by Congress and signed into law in March 2020, the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA), which was signed into law in December 2020, and the American Rescue Plan (ARP) that was signed into law in March 2021.

Amount SLCC received:

  • HEERF I (CARES): $5,323.937
  • HEERF II (CRRSAA): $5,323,937
  • HEERF III (ARP): $21,598,914

The estimated number of student eligible to participate in this emergency grant program under section 484 of the Higher Education Act as of March 31, 2022, is 30,500.

Amount disbursed as of 12/31/2022:

  • Number of awards: 64,192
  • Amount of emergency grants disbursed: $ 32,246,788
    • CARES Act funds: $5,323,937
    • CRRSAA Act funds: $5,323,937
    • ARP Act funds: $21,598,914

For Summer 2022 Students taking for-credit classes are eligible for the grant, and eligibility is not dependent upon citizenship status. Students include U.S. citizens, permanent residents, international students, refugees, asylum seekers, DACA recipients, and other DREAMers.

Students taking School of Applied Technology (SAT) classes are also eligible for the grant, but those taking Workforce courses and certificates are not eligible to receive HEERF funds. With that said, Learn and Work and other programs may be available to support students taking non-credit courses at SLCC. Learn more about Learn and Work or contact your program advisor with questions.

Qualifying students who are also Pell eligible will receive $350, and qualifying students who are not Pell eligible will receive $200.
