Commencement Ceremony

Arrival at the Maverik Center and Processional

Students will be lining up by the school they are graduating from. Graduates must be aware of what school their major belongs to. For more information, please check our schools webpage.

Graduates must arrive at the Maverik Center at 8:30 a.m. in their cap and gown in order to line up for the Graduate Processional. Graduates need to gather in Parking Lot C, which is on the Northeast side of the Maverik Center. Upon arrival please check in at your school’s tent. If you are a Civically Engaged Scholar, please check in at the tent designated for Civically Engaged Scholars.

College personnel will organize the procession. Graduates are asked to follow their instructions at all times. Graduates should remain in place until the ceremony concludes with the processional music.

ADA Accommodation and Accessibility

All students regardless of permanent or temporary physical disabilities are encouraged to participate in Commencement. ASL interpreters and open-captioning services will be provided during the ceremony. Other accommodations will be made upon request. For these and other ADA accommodations, please contact Julie Smith at 801-957-4854 (voice) or 801-957-4646 (TTY).

The Maverik Center (ceremony site) is wheel chair accessible from the South parking lot through the Main Entrance. The drop-off area is located in front of the building near the Main Entrance. Upon arrival at the Maverik Center, students are asked to check in with the Disability Resource Center by the “Team Entrance” located at the east side of the main entrance.

The Maverik Center recognizes the needs of guests with disabilities, as defined by the American Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Maverik Center continues to make every effort to comply with state and federal accessibility regulations and accommodate guests with disabilities.

Due to safety regulations, all aisles in the arena must be kept clear of children, strollers, wheelchairs and all other obstacles during the ceremony.

Parking

Complimentary parking for students and guests will be available at the Maverik Center. Guests should park on the south side of the Maverik Center. See map of Maverik Center.

Students are strongly encouraged to plan to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to avoid expected traffic delays. Students are also strongly encouraged to carpool, or use public transportation. A UTA Trax station is now open at the Maverik Center.

Child Care

Graduates are encouraged to make child care arrangements well in advance as children will not be allowed to sit with graduates or wander the arena without supervision during the ceremony.

Photography

GradImages will provide our professional commencement photography services. They will take a still photograph with your diploma cover before you walk across the stage, and an action photo as you cross the stage. All graduate images will be posted on GradImages web site. Proofs will be mailed 1-2 weeks after the Commencement ceremony. Additionally, proofs will be sent to the email address you provide on your reader card. There is no obligation to purchase.

For everyone’s safety and convenience, graduates must remain at their seats before and after being called to the stage for the duration of the program. Graduates may take photographs from their seats. Graduates may not move about the arena floor, the stage or backstage to take photographs, nor should graduates take photographs during the procession or while walking across the stage.

Programs

Free commemorative Commencement programs will be distributed inside the arena concourse for guests and inside the arena on the chairs designated for Graduates. The program will include those names of graduates who have applied for graduation prior to the March 30, 2017 deadline. The program is not an official list of graduates, but a celebration of great accomplishment.

Be sure to check the Graduation List by March 30 to ensure your name is spelled correctly, that you are listed under the correct degree or certificate, and area of study (major). This is how your name will be listed in the printed Commencement program.

Changes may be reported to the Graduation Office at 801-957-3878 or 801-957-4035 or by sending an e-mail to linda.rilk@slcc.edu.

Diplomas

At the ceremony, graduates will receive their diploma cover with a congratulatory document inside. Your diploma will be mailed to you at approximately six to eight weeks after the end of spring semester. If you should move in the meantime, please change your address online through your MyPage portal or contact the Graduation office at 801-957-4035 or 801-957-3878.

Guests are strongly encouraged to arrive 30-60 minutes prior to the start of the 9:30 a.m. event to avoid expected traffic delays. Guests are also strongly encouraged to carpool or use public transportation. A UTA Trax station is open at the Maverik Center.
