GETTING STARTED - STEP BY STEP

Here are the basic steps you will need to follow in order to take Concurrent Enrollment classes.  Follow the links for more information about each step.

1. Meet with High School Counselor - SEOP

Meet with your high school counselor to decide if taking college credit classes can be included in your Student Education and Occupation and  Plan (SEOP).  This step is required by the Utah State Office of Education.

2. Meet Qualifications

Students must meet the qualifying criteria set by the state,  the high school and Salt Lake Community College prior to applying for Concurrent Enrollment admission. Your high school counselor can help determine if you meet the qualifications for Concurrent Enrollment.

3. Apply for Admission

Complete the Concurrent Enrollment admission application and pay the $40.00 admission application fee.  You may apply for admissions through your high school or at the SLCC Redwood, Jordan, South, or Sandy Campuses or on-line.

4. Placement Testing

We have many classes which require placement testing. You will need to have placement scores on file before you can register for these classes. If you have taken the ACT or SAT exam, you can use your scores to fill the requirement. You can also take the ACCUPLACER exam which is offered on our campuses or at many high schools. UBSCT scores can be used for some classes.

5. Choose classes

Some classes have prerequisites which are requirements that need to be completed before you can register for a class. Prerequisites may include successful completion of college courses or qualifying placement scores. Make sure that you are eligible for the classes that you wish to take. Concurrent Enrollment classes must fit your SEOP.

6. Register

Each semester you will need to register for the classes you wish to take. Registration for Concurrent Enrollment classes at your high school will take place through the high school.  Registration for SLCC On Campus Concurrent Enrollment classes will take place via the student's MyPage account.

7. Attend a Concurrent Enrollment Orientation

The Orientation for New Concurrent Enrollment Students will give you information that will help you be successful in your college credit classes, plan which classes you could take, and how to use your Concurrent Enrollment classes when you finish high school.
