Step 3: Prepare to Take Classes
Many concurrent enrollment classes require placement testing. Placement testing helps determine whether or not you are adequately prepared to take certain college level courses.
Talk with your high school counselor or high school concurrent enrollment coordinator to make sure you have the appropriate placement scores on file before you register for concurrent enrollment classes. If you have taken the ACT or SAT exam, you can use your scores to meet the testing score requirements. You can also take the Accuplacer exam which is available at several SLCC campuses and in some high schools. Before taking the Accuplacer test a student must have completed the online admission application, paid the $40 admission fee, and then wait at least two days after completing the application. Setting Up Your MySLCC Account
Before you can register for classes you first need to set up a MySLCC Account. MySLCC is the college's student portal for registering for classes, paying tuition, accessing grades, ordering transcripts, getting news about what is going on at SLCC, and other important information. Registering for Classes
Registration is the process of choosing and signing up for college classes. Before you register for classes you must first become an SLCC student. Each term when you start a new class, you will need to go through the registration process. Before you choose your CE classes, you will need to work with your high school counselor to carefully choose classes that you are qualified to take and that will help you reach your academic goals.
Your high school will place you in your CE high school class. You also need to register yourself online for the CE class at SLCC. Registration at SLCC should be done within the first week of class. See the Register for Classes tutorial for step by step instructions on how to register.
As part of the registration process it is your responsibility to follow instructions carefully, meet all deadlines, and double check with both your high school counselor and through your SLCC MyPage account to make sure you are officially registered at both the high school and the college.
Problems Registering for Classes
Problems will arise with your registration if:
- required test scores are not in the SLCC system.
- you owe money to SLCC.
- you have an incorrect social security number on file.
- you have a campus restriction.
- you did not take a CE course for a year or a semester.
Your high school CE coordinator will work with the SLCC CE office 801-957-6344 to help you resolve the issue.
Pay Partial Tuition
The $5.00 per credit hour tuition ($15 for a 3 credit hour class, $20 for a 4 credit hour class, etc.) may be paid at the time of registration or before the deadline. The deadline generally falls about a week after the semester begins. Check the Concurrent Enrollment calendar for the exact deadline. You can pay the partial tuition online, by phone (801-957-4868), or in person (at a SLCC Cashier’s Window) using a credit card or a checking or savings account.
At the end of the semester students will receive a statement for any outstanding tuition that needs to be paid. Students who fail to pay their tuition, will receive a registration hold on their account. A registration hold will both prevent students from registering for future concurrent enrollment classes, from transferring their records to another institution, or from receiving a copy of their transcript. Once the balance has been paid the hold will be removed.
