Liaison Visits & Peer Evaluations

Download The Annual Instructor Requirements Checklist

Faculty liaisons are responsible to provide the information, resources, and support high school teachers need to effectively teach the SLCC curriculum to the college standard and deliver a college experience in the high school classroom that better prepares students to transition to college after high school. There are two types of liaisons; content specialists and college experience liaisons. Content specialists are SLCC faculty assigned by the academic department to train CE instructors on the course content and oversee the integrity of that content. College experience liaisons while they are specialists in a given content area, are primarily tasked with overseeing the integrity of the overall college experience in the high school for a broad range of related disciplines.

Each CE instructor is assigned one of each type of liaison who will be his or her primary contact with the college. Teachers can access the contact information for their liaisons by logging into the MyCE account. Liaisons are additionally provided the teacher’s contact information through MyCE.

College experience liaisons are required to perform one peer evaluation per instructor per year. These evaluations consist of a pre-evaluation discussion, a site visit where they liaison observes the entire class and completes an evaluation, and a post visit discussion. They are formative, meaning that the results of the evaluation are not shared, until the CE instructor is satisfied with the results. Exceptions may be made if there are significant concerns.

Content specialists will reach out to new teachers to train them on the curriculum and will then visit their classes at a frequency that they feel is sufficient to ensure that the college curriculum outlined in the training is adequately taught. Liaisons may additionally request to visit a teacher during that teacher’s prep or consultation period to discuss an observation or share information. These visits are less structured than those performed by the college experience liaisons.

If serious concerns arise during site visits, or the CE instructor fails to communicate or facilitate site visits with his or her liaison, the liaison, concurrent enrollment director, and SLCC academic department associate dean will work together to address those concerns and come up with a plan of action. See Resolving Quality Concerns for more information.

If a new CE instructor has not heard from their liaison to receive training on the course content, or an ongoing instructor has not heard from their liaison for over a year, or the liaison does not return their phone calls or emails, they should contact the SLCC CE Office who will help them access the support, resources, and information they need.
