The Green Academy at Salt Lake Community College offers courses in Sustainability, Green Design & Construction, and Energy Efficiency, get professional training in environmental Health & Safety, study sustainability across disciplines, or go green with one of our non-credit workshops.

START WITH SUSTAINABILITY

SLCC’s SUSTAINABILITY CERTIFICATE program focuses on a variety of issues associated with sustainability. Knowledge and skills taught in a wide variety of courses will help prepare students for jobs in new clean and green industries and train current workers who wish to augment their skills and enhance opportunities for advancement. The certificate program is comprised of 24 credit hours of course work. Students are required to take four core courses which total 12 credit hours. Students’ choices for remaining courses are dependent upon areas of specialization. Students have the option to take required courses online or in a traditional classroom format.

Salt Lake Community College's Division of Continuing Education is a part of the Mountain West OSHA Training Outreach Center.

OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (OSHA)
Training preparing workers to prevent work-related injuries, illnesses, and deaths.  It is often required by employers and/or industry.  SLCC’s classes meet the standards set by federal regulations.

HAZARDOUS WASTE OPERATIONS AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE STANDARD (HAZWOPER)
Training preparing workers who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances, including hazardous waste. It is often required by employers and/or industry. SLCC's classes meet the standards set by federal regulations. Other hazardous materials and workplace safety education available.

MANAGEMENT

AT HOME

Save money and Earth at the same time. Energy auditors will share a wide variety of ideas the average person can do to make their home and apartment more energy efficient and comfortable. A big part of the energy puzzle has to do with behavior in the home and how well things are maintained. When making new investments in upgrades to your home, be sure to think about the many no-cost/low-cost steps you can take to save energy.

AT WORK

Green Retrofitting – a brand new 10 week, non-credit course that will train students about the many facets of residential retrofitting.  Designed especially for local contractors looking to add specialization in "Green" components, this course includes information about current codes and energy saving industry standards as well as cost effective alternatives for the environment.  Students will learn how to evaluate existing buildings and ways to create a retrofit plan that incorporates elements of energy, water and materials efficiency, indoor air quality and other green building features.

ENERGY
MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Don’t miss this opportunity to develop new skills or upgrade existing skills and prepare for a career in this emerging field of energy as a technical professional! New, cutting-edge in Energy Management Training is now offered at SLCC, including alternative and renewable energy (and it’s ROI) an introduction to LEED training, HVAC controls and equipment, and energy audits. Additionally, students will learn about residential light and commercial energy analysis, weatherization, indoor pollutants, and control strategies, and current needs and trends in the energy management industry, including a survey of career opportunities in this exciting field.

This will be a comprehensive program which provides students with practical hands-on experience, integrating theory and practice. Become a part of this growing movement and prepare to join this "green collar" workforce!

COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS CONVERSION KIT
INSTALLATION TRAINING & CNG CYLINDER INSPECTION

Join us at SLCC's Larry H. Miller Automotive Training Center for eighteen hours of intensive CNG conversion training. Students will learn how to install EPA certified kits.

CNG Cylinder Inspection is part two of the Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Training class.  This class provides specific training for cylinder tank inspection of vehicles that have been converted to CNG.
