Vehicle Safety Program

For the safety of our students, faculty and staff, all Summer 2020 courses will be offered only through online delivery. 

Therefore, we currently have NO Safety Inspection classes scheduled due to COVID–19.

Partnering with Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) Division of Public Safety, this programs trains individuals to conduct vehicle inspections for both Light-duty or Heavy-duty vehicles.

  • Light duty vehicles are Passenger Vehicles and Light Duty Trucks up to 26,000 GVWR. This training also includes Motorcycle inspection
  • Heavy duty vehicles are Tractor, Trailer or Bus with 26,000 or above GVWR
UHP Requirements to become an inspector:
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a valid Utah Driver’s License, or an out of state license approved by the department.
  • Take 16 hours of approved, in-class training.
  • Pass the final exam with a score of 80% or better.
  • Submit to UHP your Instructor validated application obtained upon successful completion of training and a non-refundable $7.00 processing fee.

This course presents the required 16 hours of content prescribed through the Utah Highway Patrol Division of Public Safety for individuals to conduct heavy duty safety inspections for tractors, trailers, busses and other vehicles with GVR of 26K or more.
