Learning Outcomes Assessment in Developmental Education

Faculty in the Division of Developmental Education have implemented learning assessment utilizing the framework provided by SLCC and have been guided in their work through the following established model:

1. Create a comprehensive list of Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) for courses offered within department (Dev Ed offers no programs)

2.  Incorporate applicable SLO’s into syllabi of core classes (CCO)

3. Select performance indicators for ALL individual courses

4. Create documents needed to measure outcomes

5. Gather and summarize data (some work has been ongoing for the past four years, through Spring 2007)

6. Analyze and document results

7. Implement needed changes into courses, programs, and/or department processes

All disciplines within Developmental Education (Dev Math, Dev Reading, Dev Writing, English as a Second Language, and Learning Enhancement) have been working on the various stages of this model and have documented results for program improvement.

Much of the assessment work is documented on the discipline web sites. You may access this data by clicking on the assessment links on each discipline page.  Information is also located in binders in the division office.  In addition, NADE Certification reviews and other related information may be reviewed by contacting the division office.
