Developmental Reading Discipline Mission:

Our mission as developmental reading teachers is to guide our students to measured reading levels that will ensure successful performance in college classes. We will accomplish this through metacognitive reading strategies, vocabulary development, and lifelong reading competencies in order to improve their literacy and enrich the vocational, community, and personal aspects of their lives.

Developmental Reading Discipline Goals:

  1. Students will improve their reading comprehension.
  2. Students will improve their ability to find definitions through vocabulary in context.
  3. Students will improve their vocabulary development.
  4. Students will improve and refine lifelong reading competencies and habits.

Learning Enhancement Discipline Mission:

Learning Enhancement will train and assist students in exploring, identifying and improving personal strategies for achieving individual success. The majority of these strategies will focus on student and workplace success. Through participation in these classes students will gain a better understanding of their own self-development. They will be able to understand personal changes that may be needed, then select and apply appropriate success strategies.

Learning Enhancement Discipline Goals:

Students will be able to

  1. double their reading speed without a loss of comprehension.
  2. select and use a usable technique for taking notes.
  3. select and use a usable technique for taking tests.
  4. select and use a usable technique for managing their time.
  5. select and use a usable technique for retaining information.
  6. select and use strategies for improving their personal health.
  7. select and use a writing process for papers and reports.
  8. select and use college and community resources.
  9. write an effective resume.
  10. select and use effective job seeking skills.
  11. select and use communication and interpersonal skills that are associated with the workplace and college environments.
  12. select and use self-improvement strategies.
  13. identify techniques of personal development and improvement.
  14. identify elements of their own personal learning and development and how that may differ from others.
  15. Students will have an understanding of business structures and management styles.
  16. Students will become familiar with technology used in job search and educational development.
