SLCC Land acknowledgement
Salt Lake Community College is located on the Native American shared territory of the Goshute, Navajo, Paiute, Shoshone, and Ute People. We honor the original ancestors of this land and also offer respect to our other tribal communities. We acknowledge this history to cultivate respect for and advocate with our Indigenous students and communities still connected to this land.

2022 Native American Heritage Month
SLCC SOcial Powwow 2022
A pow-wow is a time for friends and family to come and celebrate through song and dance. Tribal communities gather to practice dances and songs that keep our traditions alive. Social pow-wows seek to enhance and promote awareness of the plethora of cultural uniqueness within our Native American students at our institution. The event showcases Native American culture through hands-on activities, music, interactive dance presentations, and resources. Interactive dance presentations, and resources.

Pow wow season is back in Utah after a two-year pandemic pause. Rocklyn Merrick, SLCC Powwow coordinator, joined the program to share about the up-and-coming SLCC Spring Social Powwow. Diné (Navajo), Oglala Lakota and Omaha, Merrick shared the significance of Powwow gatherings. She wanted Natives and non-Natives to know that ALL people are welcomed at this gathering.

Native American Heritage Month is a celebration in November that promotes and enhances the plethora of cultural uniqueness within our Native American students and communities. Our goal is to recognize and celebrate contributions of the Native American and American Indian people.

Native American Lunch and Learn Summer 2022
The Native American Lunch & Learn event serves as an opportunity for Native American students to connect, build community among peers, and receive additional information and resources to ensure their success while at SLCC community college. We share stories and experiences that help students feel welcomed and seen and reminds them that they are not alone in their pursuit of higher education.
