AAS Dental Hygiene Application Criteria

Random Selection Process

The Health Science Enrollment Services accepts Dental Hygiene applications three times a year, usually a week after classes have completed for the previous semester.  At this time, our office is accepting applications August 17-28, 2009.

Students who have successfully completed ALL the four pre-requisite classes and their labs with the required grade or better are eligible for a random selection pool.

Specifically, the random selection process:

  1. Student names are entered into the computer randomly (names are not entered into the computer based on time and date)
  2. Each student name is assigned a number.
  3. Each number is randomly generated into the computer and assigned to seat-availability for the Dental Hygiene Program.  Numbers are assigned in order of first to last.
  4. The numbers are matched to the corresponding student name.
  5. After the list is completed, each student is sent a letter regarding his or her individual status on the Dental Hygiene list.

Students who have not completed the four pre-requisite classes and their labs with the required grade will have their application sent back to them.  These students will have to reapply once all classes have been taken.

Once the Health Science Enrollment Services has processed all the applications, we will send a letter of acceptance to the students who are eligible.  The process time is usually about 30 business days, after which, we will then send a letter with the student’s acceptance date.

At this time the Health Science Enrollment Services are placing students in the FALL 2011 semester and the semesters thereafter.  However, it has been the pattern in the past, but not guaranteed, students have entered the program in around three years of once they’ve applied.  Again, that is not a guarantee but an average time.
