RESIDENCY INFORMATION

Filing for Utah Residency at SLCC

Residency application submission deadline for Fall 2009 is September 15 and Spring 2010 is January 29; after these dates the applicant will be considered for residency for the following semester.  All documentation must be received by the deadline date.  No past term will be considered.

With your application you must have evidence that you have established domicile in Utah, you must provide a Utah state-issued driver's license (if you have no valid driver's license from any state you may obtain a Utah issued ID card,) Utah vehicle registration, Utah voter information and other applicable documentation.

For Utah Residents who have been classified as non-residents because of absence from Utah due to:

  • Military Service
  • Religious or Charitable service
  • Or those who meet an exception for Temporary Utah Residency (listed below)

The Exemption to Non-Resident Tuition is for undocumented immigrants and others who are not eligible for Utah residency but who qualify for a waiver under HB 144. The affidavit can be printed from here: Download an Affidavit/Application for Exemption.

Residency Requirements Beginning July 1, 2008

A Utah Resident is defined as a US Citizen or permanent resident who:

  • Has lived in Utah for at least 12 continuous months.
      and
  • Is not claimed as a dependent by anyone residing out of state.

State of Utah Residency Policy

If information is left off your application you will be classified as a non-resident until proven otherwise. Please fill out the Three Year History Addendum if information is missing from your applicatoin.

Exceptions to Requirements

If you believe you meet any exception you will be classed as a non-resident until you provide documentation confirming an exception with an Application for Residency Classification.

  • Marriage to a Utah Resident. Residency status of spouse must be proven.
  • Full-time, Permanent Employees and their families MAY be eligible for residency status based on circumstances.
  • Ties to Utah meaning a student who has been absent from the state for religious, charitable or military service or who graduated from a Utah high school and has been absent less then 48 months and did not establish residency in another state.
  • Native Americans who are enrolled on the tribal rolls of a tribe whose reservation or trust land lie partly or wholly within Utah or is a member of a federal recognized Utah tribe and has graduated from a Utah High School.
  • Political Refugee placed directly in Utah by a relocation program.
  • Utah National Guard Member who are currently active reserve status.

Temporary Residency Status 

  • Job Corp or State Social Services Client who receives aid to attend SLCC, is enrolled in a degree or certification program and has demonstrated evidence of domiciliary intent.
  • Military Personal assigned to active duty in Utah and the immediate members of their families residing with them
  • Olympic Athletes in Utah to participate in a United States Olympic training program.

Western Undergraduate Exchange

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is a program for non-resident students who may enroll in a designated 2-year and 4-year institution at a special reduced tuition level.  For more information please see the WUE Application page.
