Real Salt Lake logoUtah is sports-crazy and basketball mad. With two major league professional teams, a variety of minor league clubs and top-notch collegiate sports, Utah is a great place for sports year round.

The Utah Jazz is the state professional sporting anchor. The National basketball Association’s schedule only runs from October through April, but the Utah Jazz capture the imagination of the state’s sports fans year round. At any of the 41 home games per year, statues of two of the organization’s most popular players—John Stockton and Karl Malone—adorning the southeastern corner of the EnergySolutions arena plaza are a great game-night attraction.

2009 Major League Soccer champion Real Salt Lake is Utah’s Major League Soccer franchise. Real (pronounced RAY-al, the Spanish word for royal; also known as RSL) plays at soccer-specific 20,000 seat Rio Tinto Stadium—host of the 2009 MLS All-Star Game. One of the top franchises in the league, Real boasts a rabid fan base and beautiful facilities that make Salt Lake City’s major league soccer games a major league attraction.

With a legacy of owners from actor Bill Murray to entrepreneur Larry Miller, Utah is home to exceptional and enjoyable minor league baseball. The AAA Salt Lake Bees, and the Orem Owlz and the Ogden Raptors—both short season A ball—entertain people of all ages all summer. Utah is also home to minor league hockey with the Utah Grizzlies. Salt lake Community College trustee Gail Miller owns and operates some of the finest motor sports in the Western Hemisphere at the Miller Motorsports Park.
