History and Mission

talking with supportersFounded in 1948 and located in Salt Lake City, Utah, Salt Lake Community College is the largest school in the state. Home to more than 60,000 students each year, personal attention from an excellent faculty is paramount at the College, which maintains a student-to-teacher ratio of less than 20 to 1.

Accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, SLCC meets the diverse needs of the Salt Lake community by offering more than 100 degree programs in academic and vocational fields. SLCC is an open enrollment institution.

The College is the sole provider of applied technology courses in the Salt Lake area, with multiple sites, an eCampus, and nearly 1,000 continuing education sites located throughout the Salt Lake valley.

Student life at the College is exciting and varied. SLCC’s Grand Theatre features performances of popular and classic plays with local professional actors. The College also offers a film festival, a lecture series, five intercollegiate athletics teams—including the 2009 National Champion Men’s Basketball team—a student-run radio station and newspaper, and numerous student clubs and organizations.

While many students use their Salt Lake degree to forge a new career, a large number also transfer to four-year schools. SLCC has agreements with all other schools in the Utah System of Higher education, so that general education credits transfer to any four-year school in Utah.
