Financial Aid

Awarding and Packaging

The first step to awarding aid is to find your need.  Need is determined using your Educational Expenses minus your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and outside resources. The EFC is determined by the federal processor when you submit the FAFSA.

Pell Grant funds are awarded before anything else. If eligible, your Pell Grant will be based on your expected enrollment and EFC.

Next we award other grants (federal, state and/or institutional). Because we have limited funding in other grants most funds go to students who have a complete application by the priority dates. SLCC limits students to two types of grant aid per aid year.

Federal Work Study, Perkins Loans and Direct Stafford Loans are awarded next. You must indicate interest in these types of aid on the Student Information Form. If funds are available and you have need, these may be included as part of your award package.

Once you have been awarded aid, an award letter will be sent to your SLCC Bruin email account. This letter will detail your aid package including: type of funds, amounts, hours the award is based on and additional steps required to process aid. You should check your email frequently to make sure you have done everything needed to receive your aid.
