When financial aid is awarded it is awarded for the academic year. Usually this means the Fall and Spring semesters. The financial aid award is required to be split equally between the semesters. Financial aid is paid to a student's account when the following conditions are met.
In practice this means that the first time that aid can be released to a students account is one week before the term starts. If all the other conditions have been met. We continue to release funds throughout the term to student accounts as students are awarded and as funds arrive from the lenders.

Stafford Loan Deferment Information
Once you have been awarded Work Study, you will need to visit the Financial Aid office to receive a Work Study Job Referral Form. This form proves that you have a Work Study Award; it shows the maximum amount you can earn during the fiscal year, and will have this amount broken down for each semester. Students applying for Work Study positions must have a referral form, in their possession, in order to apply for a job.
Once you receive a referral form you may review the job listings online at www.slcc.edu/workstudy. Only students who receive a work-study award as part of their financial aid package may apply for work-study jobs. Print out the position announcements that interest you.
To arrange for an interview, you will need to contact the person(s) listed on the position announcement. Take the Work Study Job Referral Form with you to the interview. Once you've been hired, your supervisor must complete the Job Referral Form with the hiring date, his/her name and signature. The supervisor will keep the pink copy of the Referral Form, and give the blue copy to the student to return it to the Financial Aid office.
When you return the blue copy of your completed Work Study Referral Form to the Financial Aid Office; you will be given a SLCC Work Study hiring packet and instructions for completing the hiring paperwork. This packet must be completed and returned to the Financial Aid office as soon as possible, and is required to set up your payroll account.
Once you have been hired, you and your supervisor can plan your work schedule. When planning your schedule, your supervisor will consider the following: award amount, rate of pay, your class schedule and the number of weeks left in the Semester.
The number of hours you are able to work each week will depend upon the amount of your Work Study award. At Salt Lake Community College, work schedules are generally flexible to allow students to work around their classes. Most Work Study employees work 10-12 hours a week during a 15-week semester. You and your employer will determine your work schedule. Work Study employees may not work more than 29 hours per week and cannot earn more than the amount of his or her award. The maximum amount awarded in work-study for one semester is $2000 or $4000 per academic year. The minimum amount awarded is $1000 per semester.
There are a wide range of student jobs on campus open only to SLCC students. Often, students can find a job that combines good pay and valuable work experience because the job duties relate to their academic major. Many supervisors are flexible in setting up a work schedule and you may be able to work between your classes. Studies show that students who work tend to make better grades, learn to manage their time more efficiently, are more persistent in their goal to graduate, and may have to borrow less in loans to help pay for college expenses. Money earned from a work-study position does not have to be claimed as income when applying for financial aid the following year.
SLCC uses the institutional hourly classification and pay plan to determine pay rates for student employees. Pay rates range from minimum wage to $10.00 per hour. Your pay rate will correspond to your job classification. Jobs are classified by the skills needed and the level of responsibility required. Pay raises may be given depending on your job performance. Work Study employees may not earn more than their award amount and should plan accordingly. Once you have earned the amount equivalent to your award, your Work Study position will be terminated. However your supervisor will then have the option to hire you as an hourly employee.
Paychecks are distributed twice a month; see the Payroll Calendar at www.slcc.edu/hr/hr.htm for more detailed information. The amount of your check will depend on your pay rate and the number of hours you worked during the previous pay period. Your paycheck will be mailed to your home address. Direct Deposit is available upon request.

A student who drops courses during the add/drop period of a term will receive a tuition adjustment or refund. Students who withdraw from courses after the add/drop period will not receive an adjustment or refund. Students must pay for all courses not dropped by the drop deadline. Exceptions to this policy may be granted by Enrollment Services after the student submits a written appeal. Courses are not automatically dropped for non-attendance.
Pell Grant recipients who reduce their credit hours below the minimum required by their award level, may be required to repay all or a portion of the Pell grant.
All financial aid recipients who drop or withdraw from classes prior to the 60% point of the term are subject to the Federal Return of Funds policy. In addition, students who fail to complete any classes during the term are also subject to this policy. They may be required to return any funds received to the federal programs. If SLCC is required to return federal funds, these costs will be passed on to the student who will be required to reimburse the school.
Students may drop classes during the add/drop period or withdraw from classes prior to the withdrawal deadline for the term.
