Bruin Scholars

A yearlong program (Fall and Spring) at the Taylorsville Redwood campus designed to support a smooth transition into college. This program is for you if you are a first year student wanting to get a step ahead on college success.

You will be expected to...

  1. Participate in the Bridge to Success summer program from July 9th – August 8th (see more info below).
  2. Take the appropriate English and/or Math class every term until you finish the requirements for your program of study.
  3. Attend at least 2 campus events outside of the classroom in the Fall and Spring terms.
  4. Meet with your assigned Bruin Scholars advisor for a midterm advising session in the Fall and Spring terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

You will be required to attend two different types of events. One event will be a Bruin Scholars event where you will be invited to by your advisor. Your second event can be anything happening on campus such as a club meeting or event, lecture, workshop, or SLCC athletics game. We encourage you to get involved.

You will meet with your Bruin Scholars advisor to discuss how your semester is going, and have your instructors fill out a form indicating your progress in your classes.

Meet with your Bruin Scholars advisor to discuss your options and what the best course of action will be for you.

That’s ok. You will work with your Bruin Scholars advisor to create a plan to ensure you can start taking math as soon as possible.

Bridge to Success will give you the opportunity to learn about the College’s resources, meet with instructors, create peer connections, and begin learning how to be a successful college student before classes even begin.

Bridge to Success is a college success course that is focused on teaching you how to be the most successful student you can be. Bridge into Math is a class that will assist you in refreshing your math skills to help you either improve your Accuplacer scores or help you get ready to take math.

Yes, visit with a First-Year Experience advisor to register for both.

If you are unable to attend Bridge to Success because of a valid reason, such as a previously scheduled vacation or work conflict, meet with a Bruin Scholars advisor to register for another college success course during the Fall term.

Yes, if you start in a Spring or Summer term, you are still considered a first year student and welcome to join the program. Contact the Bruin Scholar Advisor.
