Geographic Information Sciences Technology/GIS

What is GIS?

A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information.

GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, reports, and charts.

GIST AAS Degree
Geographic Information Science Technology (GIST) AAS degree addresses the technological areas of geography and other sciences that require geospatial technology.

GIS Certificate of Completion
SLCC now offers a 30 credit hour GIS Certificate of Completion as a way for students to enhance their existing degrees to be more competitive in the workforce. The core of the certificate has students complete four GIS-focused courses along with a GIS-based independent projects course. Students with existing degrees or seeking an AS or AAS from SLCC will only need to focus on the five GIS courses for the certificate.
