Health and Lifetime Activities
The mission of the Department of Health and Lifetime Activities is to enhance the quality of life of our students, faculty and staff by educating them about healthy lifestyle and behavior choices. The emphasis is on knowledge, empowerment and choice to access, plan and participate in applying healthy living principles.
To meet the changing dynamics of the wellness area, classes are offered in positive body image, weight management, the mind/body connection, stress management, lifetime wellness and fitness, alcohol and tobacco education, responding to emergencies, kinesiology, and exercise physiology. In addition, over thirty activity classes are offered to enhance fitness and skill development to promote activity for a lifetime. Activity classes offered include kickboxing, spinning, tai chi, yoga, racquetball, cardio fitness, mountain biking, hiking and snowshoeing, along with many others. Lifetime activity classes will benefit all students regardless of pre-existing fitness and skill levels.
Our goal is to provide an evolving curriculum that is constantly expanding to meet the needs of our students, faculty and staff. Classes are held in many different settings including the classroom, lab, gym, strength room, fitness center, parks and mountains. These courses will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to live a healthy life long after they are finished at Salt Lake Community College.
