 Spiritual Health
Spiritual health isn't just about religion...it's about achieving balance and peace in your life, creating a moral compass, and learning respect and tolerance for others. Health and Wellness Services provides non-denominational support for Spiritual Health by providing information, presentations and workshops on finding spiritual connections. Achieving Balance At Health and Wellness Services we believe that balance is crucial to total health. Emotional, social, physical, intellectual and spiritual health are all important parts of total health and wellness. Healthy spirituality can help us achieve balance through connectedness to a larger whole or supreme entity. Balance is a continual process that we work at throughout our lives in our attempt to be at peace with ourselves and others. Meditation & Prayer Meditation and prayer are valuable ways to center your energies and find spiritual connectedness. Meditation is an ancient art with the ability relieve stress, create peace, change perspective and enlighten the mind. Many religions use meditation to achieve spiritual closeness to a deity, the self, or nature. There are specific meditations that can be learned and promote religious ideation, but some people meditate simply by being still and focusing on their bodies, thoughts or surroundings. Prayer involves seeking peace through the connection to a deity or deities. Many people pray to a specific god or benevolent spirit to help them in times of trouble. Prayer is a valuable way to voice needs and express compassion for others. Moral Guidance Spirituality helps us to define our concept of right and wrong. In part, being spiritually healthy means you have developed a set of morals, ethics and values that you believe in and adhere to. It is important to remember that concepts of right and wrong are subjective (determined by the individual). Although we have laws that govern some of our actions, everyone is entitled to his or her own beliefs about morality. Maintaining Respect For Others An important part of healthy spirituality is not letting personal beliefs justify harm to others. The diversity of our world can make life both interesting and challenging. Spirituality frequently incorporates fervent and passionate beliefs and feelings, making it a highly personal and volatile subject of discussion. People may say or do things that conflict with our beliefs and encourage violent reactions. It is important to remember to have respect for different beliefs systems and exercise tolerance and compassion when dealing with people. It's OK to disagree with the beliefs, morals and values of others, but it is not OK to turn that disagreement into prejudice, violence or hatred. Talking to people that do not share our spiritual beliefs can tax our compassion and tolerance, but also open us up to new ideas and experiences. Learning about different styles of spiritual awareness can be a rewarding and joyful experience.
