Educational Excellence

Objective:

Salt Lake Community College will be a national leader for quality and relevancy by providing educational and academic programs that develop the cultural competence and support the success of its diverse community of students and employees.

Goals/Strategies:

  1. Require all college employees to have one professional development performance goal annually that increases the individual’s 1) cultural competence 2) best practices in teaching and learning in a diverse environment, 3) ability to work in a diverse setting, and/or 4) ability to lead and manage in a diverse environment.
  2. Identify then coordinate College-wide programs, educational events, and activities for faculty, staff, and students.

Access and Success

Objective:

Salt Lake Community College will provide accessible and affordable educational opportunities for its diverse communities and provide pathways for student success and completion.

Goals/Strategies:

  1. Increase outreach and recruitment efforts to underrepresented groups through community partnerships, including groups not officially measured at the institutional level.
  2. Increase financial support to underrepresented groups at SLCC through scholarships and other economic support mechanisms such as child care, transportation, Open Educational Resources (OER), etc.
  3. Increase academic support to underrepresented students through both Student and Academic Affairs.

Community Engagement

Objective:

Salt Lake Community College welcomes and supports our diverse communities.

Goals/Strategies:

  1. Conduct a bi-annual survey of strategic institutional partnerships to strengthen collaborations between the institution and multiple stakeholders built around geographic areas.
  2. Expand multi-lingual access for recruiting, outreach, and marketing materials.
  3. Host College-wide events to facilitate understanding among diverse populations and to bring the community to the College.

Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness

Objective:

Salt Lake Community College will strengthen and implement responsible equity and diversity policies and procedures, best practices, and ongoing assessment and compliance strategies that align with the current SLCC Strategic Plan.

Goals/Strategies:

  1. Conduct an annual comprehensive review of existing academic and nonacademic diversity-related and nondiscrimination College policies and procedures. Publish and distribute a document detailing results of this review.
  2. Conduct comprehensive review and inventory of existing academic and nonacademic education programs and related professional development activities.
  3. Monitor, evaluate, and assess goal achievement of the College Diversity Plan to support and sustain diversity goals and objectives.
  4. Identify and implement diversity best practices to enhance recruitment and selection processes in order to ensure a thoroughly diverse applicant pool. Expand opportunities to attract and retain a highly diverse faculty and staff workforce.
