Pre-college Engineering Program (PREP) Middle Schoolers

The Salt Lake Community College Pre-College Engineering Program (PREP) is a no-cost six-week summer program that challenges high-achieving 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Underrepresented youth, girls, and first-generation students are encouraged to apply. PREP is committed to providing stimulating community-empowered programs for underrepresented and first-generation students to pursue college studies and career training confidently. The middle and junior high school summer academic camp provides three consecutive summers of rigorous academic instruction, experiential learning, hands-on projects, challenging homework assignments, career awareness speakers, field trips, and experience with the arts, humanities, and cultural empowerment. SLCC PREP runs Monday to Friday. On Fridays, we extend field trips and special educational events. Through a combination of educational programming inside and outside of the classroom, PREP students will build their problem-solving skills and make new friends as they participate in exciting courses, field trips, and career presentations that create a sense of pride, intellect, and community.

PREP joins other pre-college programs at SLCC, including Concurrent Enrollment, PREP Plus, PACE Program, and TRIO ETS. These programs accelerate learning persistence and encourage college-going predisposition in first-generation families and underrepresented students in college. Our recruiting starts with 6th-grade classrooms and middle schools that feed into high schools that report less than 50% of seniors matriculating to college upon graduation.
