Faxed documents will not be accepted.
Your application documents will be evaluated once all of them have been received. Incomplete applications will NOT be accepted for evaluation. A USCIS Form I-20 and the SLCC acceptance letter will be issued after all required documents have been received and evaluated by the above deadlines.

1. Proof of Financial Ability

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) requires Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) to verify that an international student submits evidence of financial ability for the length of time necessary to pursue an education in the United States. A realistic financial plan is required for the issuance of the USCIS Form I-20. Official financial documents from the student or the student’s sponsor are used to demonstrate financial ability.

  • Submit an official bank statement, from the bank account holder, verifying the amount of at least $23,146 in liquid assets.
  • For sponsors, a notarized Financial Statement is also required: Financial Statement Form (PDF)
  • For students coming with dependents, an additional $5,000 per dependent is required.
  • Estimated expenses at SLCC (2018-2019)
    • Tuition & Fees for two semesters (non-resident): $12,286
    • Room & Board (Housing & Food) for 10 Months: $7,500
    • Transportation & Personal Expenses: $1,500
    • Books & Supplies: $800
    • Health Insurance: $1,060
    • Total: $23,146

2. Official Proof of High School Graduation

  • SLCC International Admissions policy requires official proof demonstrating completion of secondary education equivalent to a U.S. academic high school diploma. English translations may be required.

3. Travel Documents

  • Provide a copy of the main passport page including:
    • Name
    • Photo
    • Passport expiration date
  • Provide copies of your visa, I-94 and I-20.

4. Transfer Eligibility

  • Students transferring from schools within the U.S. are required to submit a Transfer Form (PDF).
    • The form requires the signature of the Designated School Official (DSO) at the student’s current school and certifies the student’s SEVIS status and eligibility to transfer.
  • In order to be considered for transfer to SLCC, students are required to have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, the equivalent of a C, at their previous U.S. school.

Transcript Evaluation

Students who wish to transfer credits from a previous school are required to have their transcripts evaluated. The Transcript Evaluation Office evaluates a student’s official transcript from another school and applies course credits to their SLCC transcript for placement and graduation purposes. Transcripts are evaluated based on the program of study selected when applying to SLCC.

  • Submit official transcripts for evaluation at least one month prior to the start of classes

English Proficiency

All students are required to take the Accuplacer/LOEP or CASAS test upon arrival at SLCC. Based on the test scores, students will be placed at the level of appropriate English instruction for their needs. (The Accuplacer test may not be required if the appropriate college-level English courses have been taken at another college or university. See Transcript Evaluation section above.)

Health Insurance

It is a requirement that students receiving the USCIS form I-20 from SLCC are automatically enrolled in the health insurance plan when they register for classes. The health insurance plan for SLCC F-1 international students is provided by Ascension Benefits & Insurance Solutions, Inc. The plan summary for Ascension coverage can be found at GeoBlue. Coverage begins the day before orientation.


Vaccinations and Tuberculosis Testing

All students are required to provide proof of vaccination for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) and be tested for Tuberculosis (TB) before starting classes at SLCC.

  1. Fill out the TB Screening and MMR form.
  2. Fill out the Patient Information form.
  3. Bring the completed forms to SLCC’s Center for Health and Counseling.
    • The Health and Counseling staff will test you for TB.
    • Bring a copy of your insurance card from Ascension.

Policy on Student Employment

Students maintaining their F-1 status are eligible to seek part-time employment on campus up to 20 hours a week. Contact ISA for more information.


Salt Lake Community College is a commuter campus and does not have on-campus housing. Students moving to Salt Lake City should make advanced arrangements for housing. List of Apartments in the Area.
