What is a Pharmacy Technician?
A Pharmacy Technician is a person who, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assists in various activities of the pharmacy department.

What does a Pharmacy Technician do?
Typical duties include maintaining patient records, packaging and labeling medication doses, filing and distributing routine orders for stock supplies, maintaining inventories of supplies and mixing drugs with parental fluids.

Where does a Pharmacy Technician work?
A Pharmacy Technician typically works in hospitals, clinics, home health care operations or retail settings.
What is the salary range for Pharmacy Technicians?
The salary range typically starts at approximately $9 per hour and caps at $17 per hour.

Is there a job demand for Pharmacy Technicians?
The job demand at this time is quite good.  There is a need for technicians wherever Pharmacists work.
How long does the training take?
The student must complete the program within one year of the start date.
What are the prerequisites?
The MATH requirement is Math 920 or Math 950 with a C grade or higher  OR a CPT placement score into Math 990 or higher.

A student must provide a current typing test of 30 NWPM or higher.

A student must provide a criminal background check. Information is in the Pharmacy packet about locations for having this completed.

When can I obtain the Certificate?
A certificate is awarded at the end of training if the student has a C average or higher in each class.
Is there financial aid available?

How much does the Pharmacy Technician Program cost?
    
$855.75 tuition each for 1st & 2nd semester
     $489.75 tuition for 3rd semester
     $500.00 textbooks (approximation)

What grade average must be maintained to receive the Certificate?
A student must maintain a grade average of C or better in each class.

How do I obtain a Certificate?
Send your Affidavit and a legal sized self-addressed and stamped envelope to the Program Coordinator (Contact Us).
All final grades should be posted to your SLCC transcript within approximately 3 weeks of your course work final examinations.  The Program Coordinator will review your file to confirm all requirements have been met, all course grades are C grade or better, payments are complete, and any other issues that need to be resolved have been taken care of.  The appropriate paperwork will then be signed and returned to you in the envelope your provided.  Your certificate will be sent to you in the mail as well.

How do I obtain the State of Utah Pharmacy Technician Application for Licensure?
You can do one of the following:
1- Download the application for the DOPL website at www.dopl.utah.gov.
2- Request the application by phone: 801-530-6628
3- Request the application in writing:
