Statement from President Cynthia Bioteauon the Death of LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley.President Gordon B. Hinckley was a tireless leader whose profound faith and humility made him an exemplary figure. The Salt Lake Community College family, together with millions of others from across the world, is saddened at the news of this great man’s death. President Hinckley’s passionate and devoted service to humanity has given many people opportunities to improve themselves, and has left this world a better, more humane place. President Hinckley was a true friend to education and to this college. Salt Lake Community College awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters to Gordon B. Hinckley in 2003 in recognition of his magnificent contributions to higher education. His belief in and support for the value of education have been eminent. His advocacy for programs such as the LDS Church’s Perpetual Education Fund has meant that innumerable people from many nations have received the benefits of higher education. All of us at Salt Lake Community College mourn the loss of this kind and caring leader. President Hinckley’s legacy of treating all people with dignity and respect is, and will continue to be, an inspiration to all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hinckley family at this time. |
