Emergency Medical Technician

The Program satisfies the training requirements for those who are interested in becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Advanced EMT. The training is designed to prepare the student for the real world of medical care by giving the knowledge, skills, hands-on experience, and the technical background to provide such care. The training is also applicable to nursing, physical therapy, law enforcement and private security personnel. To be licensed by the State of Utah, you must be 18 years of age and have no major felony convictions, complete all course and testing requirements. You must attend all scheduled classes.

Program Information

Course Information

  • HSEM 2300 Emergency Medical Technician
  • 10 elective credits towards a Criminal Justice AS or AAS degree
  • Financial Aid is available for those who qualify
  • 13 weeks
  • Pre-Requisite: 18 years of age and no felony convictions
  • Tuition is $1480.00, plus books approximately $250.00 and State Certification fee for resident or non-resident are the same $115.00.
  • There is an $80.00 test fee paid to the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) at the end of the course for the written certification test.
  • The course of instruction includes treatment of medical emergencies, including trauma injuries, shock treatment, bleeding, illness, bandaging, splinting, and taking of vital signs.

  • 6 elective credits towards a Criminal Justice AS or AAS degree
  • Financial Aid is available for those who qualify
  • 12 weeks
  • Pre-Requisite: Current Utah EMT License
  • Tuition is $900.00, plus books approximately $150.00 and State Certification fee for resident or non-resident are the same $50.00.
  • There is a $115.00 test fee paid to the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) at the end of the course for the written certification test.
  • The course of instruction includes advance treatment skills including the use of advanced airways, advance level medications, and IV’s.

Registration Steps

Admissions, Accuplacer, and Orientation are all required for registration.

  • Application for Admission Fee $40 (Non-Refundable)
    Online application
    Recommended Degree/Program: CJ-AS or CJ-AAS
    Admissions will take 48 hours to process, a letter will be mailed to your home with your SLCC student number.
  • Accuplacer Test
  • New Student Orientation
  • Financial Aid (optional)
  • Contact the Miller Student Services at 801-957-5417 for assistance with admissions. If you are a returning student, please make sure your student account is eligible for registration.
  • Once complete students can register for the next EMT course by login to MySLCC, clicking-on add/drop classes and selecting Homeland Security Emergency Management, then HSEM 2300 EMT or HSEM 2350 Advanced EMT.

EMT/Advanced EMT recertification and CPR students must complete the below form and register at the Larry H. Miller Campus located at 9750 South 300 West, Miller Professional Development Center room 110. Registration questions please call (801) 957-5200.

  • EMT recertification is offered Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters at a cost of $100.
  • Advanced EMT recertification is only offered during the Summer semester at a cost of $200.
  • If a student is not already CPR State Certified there is a certification class available in conjunction with the EMT courses for $45.00.
