The Special Function Reserve Officer Training course CJ 1910 is 14 weeks in length and the tuition is $1700.00. The Peace Officer Basic Training course CJ 1920 is 17 weeks in length and the tuition is $3300.00. Classes are taught Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All students will be required to utilize a laptop computer or tablet while attending the Academy, additional program information will be provided during the group interview.
Before completing the online POST Application please call (801) 957-5330 to schedule a group interview. Group interviews are at the Larry H. Miller Campus located at 9750 South 300 West, Public Safety Education & Training Center room 270.
Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. All applicants must register as a Salt Lake Community College student declaring a Criminal Justice Major, the cost is $40.00 and the applications can be submitted online. This must be completed first to enable registration for the program. Tuition must be paid by college semester deadlines, payment arrangements can also be made with any of the college cashiering offices. Students who drop out of the course will not receive a full refund, refunds will be prorated.
The Academy has a National Entrance Exam everyone must take and pass to be eligible for the program. The test is available at the Larry H. Miller Campus located at 9750 South 300 West, Free Enterprise Center room 238, for an appointment please call (801) 957-5221. The test is also available Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the South City Campus. No appointment is necessary. Please be prepared to present a government issued photo ID with your birth date and signature. Everyone must check-in before 5:30 p.m. to pay for parking and the $30.00 non-refundable testing fee which must be paid before the exam is taken. Entrance to the testing room must take place before 5:45 p.m. and you must have proof of payment to enter. The "National Police Officer Selection Test Study Guide" is available in the college bookstores for approximately $4.00. Test results from the post exam never expire, so make several copies because every agency you apply to will request a copy of your scores.
