RADS 1010 Intro to Radiologic Technology 2 A

- Note: All prerequisites must be completed BEFORE applying to the Radiologic Technology program. The following prerequisites MUST be completed with a B- grade or better within the past 5 years: BIOL 2320 and BIOL 2325. Applicants have the option of retaking BIOL 2320/2325 only once to improve their grade.  The remaining prerequisites must be completed with a C grade or better. See application deadlines. It is the student's responsibility to examine each course description for details of other prerequisite classes. There is NO averaging of the two grades. A deduction is applied for retaking any prerequisite course. The highest grade of the two attempts will be used

 - NOTE: All corequisites must be completed with a C grade or better. It is highly recommended that the applicant takes the corequisites prior to entering the program

Health Professions Admission Assessment
- Contact the Health Sciences Assessment Center to schedule an exam at least 1 week BEFORE you plan to take the exam
- A minimum overall score of 75% or better is required. If the minimum score is not achieved on the 1st attempt, a 2nd attempt is allowed. Applicants are required to remediate for a minimum of 2 weeks before the 2nd attempt. If an applicant scores 75% or slightly higher and wants to improve their score a 2nd attempt is allowed. The highest score of the two attempts will be used; there is no averaging of the two scores. Scores are valid for 3 years. The areas tested include: Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Math, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, and Vocabulary & Gen. Knowledge. Learning Style and a Personality Profile are also included (for information only) Each test must be scheduled at least one week in advance

Immunization Form and CPR Certification
- Have a health care provider fill out and sign the Immunization Form
- Bring a current CPR Certification Card to the Admissions Office. CPR Certification must be one of the following: American Heart Association two-year Health Care Provider, or American Red Cross two-year for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers (Red Cross certificate ID will need to be submitted for verification).
SLCC Health & Wellness Services offers immunizations at a discounted rate
*Some clinical facilities may require additional immunizations
**Student assumes the risk if he/she does not have the required immunizations and the clinical site(s) do not accept him/her, he/she may not be able to complete the course and the program. This may also result in possible withdrawal from the program after the tuition refund deadline is past

*Student assumes the risk if their criminal background is not clear, he/she may not be able to complete the course and the program. This may also result in possible withdrawal from the program after the tuition refund deadline is past. Only one placement attempt will be made per clinical course (this may depend upon the program). **Background check is good for one year from order date.


Essay
- One page typed essay documenting health care/customer service interactions. Include with application
- Applicants must type an essay that includes the following information:
- Content Development: Uses pertinent content to demonstrate a credible understanding of the topic - the ideas should flow smoothly from one to another and are clearly linked to each other, making it very easy for the reader to follow
- Analysis Connections: Connects experiences/skills learned in health care and/or customer service interactions; fully explains their experiences/skills learned interacting with the public that involved health care an/or customer service interactions
- Health care/ Customer Service Interactions: Type and length of job experience with duties performed; can include volunteer/observation in health care, customer service interaction, working in health care with either direct or indirect patient contact
- Grammar, Spelling & Punctuation: Uses proper mechanics for essay; uses correct spelling, punctuation and grammar consistently throughout the essay
- Format: 1 page essay, double spaced, 12 point font, minimum 250 words

Application
The following will instruct you on how to access the Radiologic Technology Application:
- Log into MyPage
- Click on the Student Tab
- In the Health Sciences Channel box, click on Program Admissions to access the application
- Application fee: $25

Interview
- After submission of the Radiologic Technology Application, applicant may be contacted to participate in a required group interview
- Interviews are held during the month of March or April

Notification of Acceptance or Non-Acceptance
- Notification will be sent to student's Bruinmail
- If accepted, further instructions regarding the drug screening and orientation will be in the notification of acceptance
- Drug screen fee: $35
- Orientation fee: $5
