SLCC Tuition Waivers

Salt Lake Community College offers a wide variety of tuition waivers to Utah residents. Most can be applied for through our normal scholarship process as outlined on scholarship page, however, the list of specialized tuition waivers below must be applied for directly through the SLCC Scholarship team.

Sterling Scholars Tuition Waiver

This one-year tuition waiver is available to regional Sterling Scholars category winners and runners-up. Recipients must enroll in a minimum of nine credit hours each semester. The exact tuition waiver amount is based on the number of enrolled credit hours (maximum 18). These tuition waivers are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. They are non-renewable and limited. Recipients must provide a copy of their certificate, or the newspaper clipping of award to the Scholarship team at the Financial Aid Office on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, or it may be emailed to scholarships@slcc.edu.

Purple Heart Tuition Waiver

Utah Residents who have received the Purple Heart qualify for this tuition waiver. Students must send a copy of either their DD-214 or Purple Heart Certificate to the Scholarship team at the Financial Aid Office the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, or email it may be emailed to scholarships@slcc.edu.

Scott B. Lundell Military Member Surviving Dependents Tuition Waiver

This tuition waiver is for the surviving dependents of a Utah resident military member killed in the line of duty after 9/11/2001. Students will need to contact the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs to receive proper documentation. This documentation should then be brought to the Scholarship team at the Financial Aid Office on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, or it may be emailed to scholarships@slcc.edu.

Surviving Spouses & Children of Police Officers & Firefighters Tuition Waiver

This tuition waiver may be used by the children and surviving spouse of a Utah peace officer or Utah firefighter who has been killed in the line of duty. Bring supporting documentation to the Scholarship team at the Financial Aid Office on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, or it may be emailed to scholarships@slcc.edu.

Other programs that may help reduce the cost of tuition for some students

Senior Enrollment

Utah residents age 62 and over can enroll and audit classes by paying a $10 registration fee if seats are available. Complete the waiver form.

WICHE/WUE

Students who are residents of a WICHE state may be eligible to request a reduce tuition rate. For more information contact Diana Molina at diana.molina@slcc.edu or 801-957-5044. You may also visit the WICHE website for more information.

Undocumented Utah High School Graduates

HB 144 – Students not eligible for residency due to immigration status may qualify for an exemption from non-resident tuition. Complete the required affidavit.
