Culinary Arts Center Ribbon Cutting CeremonySalt Lake Community College hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Tuesday, September 12 for its new Culinary Arts Center at the Larry H. Miller campus, 9750 South 300 West. The ceremony was a way to introduce the new building and say "thank you" to Larry H. and Gail Miller. Before the ribbon was cut, two culinary arts students presented the Millers with embroidered chef’s jackets and chef hats. Mr. Miller thanked the College for its commitment to students and the services it provides the community. SLCC President Cynthia A. Bioteau extened her thanks and gratitude to all that Mr. Miller has done for the College and his continuous efforts to improve the educational opportunities of the students in our community. The new Culinary Arts Center has more than 10,000 square feet of training space including classrooms, computer lab, demonstration kitchens, gas and electric kitchens, refrigerator and dry storage space and dining room. Courses will be held at the new site beginning Spring Semester. SLCC offers the only culinary arts program in the state of Utah accredited by the American Culinary Federation. By successfully completing the program students earn an AAS degree while simultaneously fulfilling the requirements for the National Restaurant Association certificates. The program combines both classroom education and practice with on-the-job training. Students in the full-time culinary arts program must complete two years of coursework and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training. Part-time students must complete three years of coursework and 6,000 work hours. The Culinary Arts Center is the seventh building to be constructed at the Miller Campus. |
