Transfer Information

Degrees

Salt Lake Community College offers four transferable degrees that allow you to continue to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university:

  • Associate of Science (AS)
  • Associate of Arts (AA)
  • Associate of Pre-engineering (APE)
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

The AS and AA degrees satisfy all lower-division general education requirements for a bachelor’s degree at Utah’s public colleges and universities, Westminster College and Western Governors University.

You are not guaranteed acceptance into a specific major at your transfer school when you complete the AS or AA degree. Some four-year programs are restricted and require a separate application as well as a competitive GPA.

The transferable APE and AAS degrees do not include all general education requirements, but you may complete your general education credits at SLCC or at the transfer school.

General Education Certificate of Completion

If you complete all general education requirements but not an AS or AA degree at SLCC, you will have completed the lower-division general education requirements for a bachelor’s degree at Utah’s public colleges and universities, and Westminster College.

You should request that a General Education Certificate of Completion from the Graduation Office be sent with your transcripts to your transfer school.

TransferUtah.org shows students how course credits earned at one college may transfer to other Utah institutions. The guide describes whether the class will be considered equivalent to a class offered by the second institution or will be treated as elective credit. How credit transfers is important: you want credit to count as a required class for the certificate or degree program you are working on.
