In addition to being admitted through Enrollment Services as a non-matriculated student to SLCC, students applying to the DMS program must meet the following criteria:
1. High School graduation or equivalent

The classes listed below must have been taken at a College or University. Please indicate where and when you completed specific courses required for admission.  Remember that you must have sealed official transcripts sent from that institution. All prerequisites require a grade of a B or better.

2. Elementary Physics PHYS 1010

*Please note: Biology 1170 or 1210 is a prerequisite for anatomy/physiology courses. In the fall of 2007 these two courses will be combined to form  BIOL 1610 (College Biology).

3. *Human Anatomy BIOL 2320/2325
4. *Human Physiology BIOL 2420/2425
5. Communications COM 1010 or 1020

6. Intermediate Algebra MATH 1010 (taken within the last five years OR CPT score of greater than or equal to 43 on the college level math section -- proof of score included with application.)

Education is provided by the College; however, licensure and/or certification may be required and provided by State and Federal agencies.  The Division of Occupational and Professional licensing is to protect the public; therefore, you will be asked several questions including but not limited to the following, “Have you ever held a previous licensure, been denied to sit for licensure, surrendered a license, had any disciplinary action against you, faced actions related to your conduct or patient care, received curtailments or limitations, whether or not you would pose a threat to yourself, your patients, or the public health and well being, past or current use of drugs, been arrested and convicted, and involved in incidents of abuse.  A yes answer to one or more of the above or other questions may preclude you from taking the national licensure examination.

This cautionary note has been added due to the changes made by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer's (ARDMS) board of directors.    As of January 1, 2006 those students not possessing a bachelors degree or a two year degree in a patient care related field will be required to have an additional 12 month full time equivalent work experience after the education program has been completed. Work experience and clinical experience cannot overlap. Unpaid, volunteer or barter experience will not be accepted.

As the requirements change, they will be posted on this page.
