Course TypesLooking for more options? Explore a variety of course types that are available via SLCC’s Virtual Campus. | Online (Internet) Online classes are delivered from a course website which commonly includes instructions, lectures, assignments, materials, and other interactive learning activities. Communication with the instructor and with other students occurs via email, discussions and perhaps live chat. Online courses may require attendance at in-person orientation sessions or exam reviews; however, the time and place-specific requirements are minimal. | | Broadcast (Telecourse) Broadcast courses are instructional lectures delivered via public television and local cable stations. These courses are commonly supplemented with Internet readings and assignments, in-person or telephone conference calls, labs, and/or examinations. Broadcast courses from Salt Lake Community College are delivered on KUEN-TV, Channel 9 (public) and ValleyTV, Channel 17 (Comcast). | | DVD DVD courses are Broadcast sessions that have been duplicated on DVD. You watch the lectures on DVDs and complete all readings, assignments, seminars, labs, and examinations online. DVDs are available at the Virtual Campus Service Center. A small fee for the DVDs applies. These courses are commonly supplemented with Internet readings, assignments and other interactive activities. | | Interactive Audio/Video (EDNET/Web Conferencing) Course is taught via remote interactive video and audio (i.e., EdNET, Web Conferencing) from an origination site to one or more receive sites. The live interaction of the system allows you to ask questions and receive answers from the instructor as well as interact directly with other students. These courses are commonly supplemented with Internet readings, assignments and other interactive activities. |
