Vehicle Inspection Program
Partnering with the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) Division of Public Safety, this 2-day, 16 hour training program covers the required elements for individuals to become licensed to conduct vehicle inspections. There are two different licenses – one for Light-duty and the other for Heavy-duty vehicles.
- Light duty vehicles are passenger vehicles and light duty trucks up to 26,000 GVWR. This training also includes Motorcycle/ATV/UTV inspection
- Heavy duty vehicles are Tractor, Trailer or Bus, and other vehicles with 26,000 or above GVWR
UHP Requirements to become an inspector:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have a valid Utah Driver’s License, or an out of state license approved by the department.
- Take 16 hours of approved, in-class training.
- Pass the final exam with a score of 80% or better.
- Submit to UHP your Instructor validated application obtained upon successful completion of training and a non-refundable $7.00 processing fee. ( We recommend you make a copy for your records before mailing in.)
