Energy Efficient Lighting
Taught by international award-winning lighting designer, Jody Good, the Energy-Efficient Lighting Certificate focuses on ways to improve both the quality and efficiency of lighting. You will learn about methods and materials for energy saving retrofit opportunities as well as how to conduct a lighting audit to complete a cost savings analysis.
Courses are designed to benefit Lighting Industry, Building, Construction, Facilities and Energy Management professionals, giving you practical knowledge and skills to use on the job. Suggested pre-requisites are EGMT 1700 Electrical Principles, PHYS 1010 Elementary Physics, and MATH 1010 Intermediate Algebra or a working knowledge of these subjects. Energy-Efficient Lighting courses are offered as non-credit for professional development, or register as a student at SLCC to receive college credit. Contact the Program Manager for more information.
Course assesses quantity & quality of light, light sources & controls, luminaries, manufacturer lamp & ballast specifications, lighting power density & HVAC interactions, retrofit opportunities, cost saving annually, lighting codes/regulations, and lighting audit projects.

Students will review terminology & lighting fundamentals, IES illuminance selection procedures, evaluate lighting systems, luminaries & associated components, perform illuminance calculations including point by point, lumen & computerized procedures.
