Program Information

Prepare to join the hospitality industry! This course lays the groundwork for building foundational skills in securing and maintaining entry-level positions in housekeeping and food services. Classroom lectures and hands-on activities will help students gain valuable skills in guest services, communications, best employment practices, housekeeping, and obtaining a food handler’s permit.

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:
  •  Identify the requirements of securing and maintaining employmentmin the hospitality industry
  • Submit an online job application and prepare for a job interview
  • Apply the basic principles of guest service
  • Communicate effectively with guests, team, and supervisors
  • Follow industry health and safety principles
  • Demonstrate critical listening, speaking, and problem-solving skills with confidence
  • Apply basic principles of teamwork and hospitality leadership skills
  • Obtain a Food Handler’s Permit
  • Follow property protocol for housekeeping duties

Level 2 Pre-College Certificate

 

Progressive level of applied training and career development designed to position the adult learner to enroll in the SLCC Culinary Arts or Hospitality Management Associate of Applied Science degree programs. Stand out and be competitive in promotional and career advancement opportunities with potential increase in wages.

AAS in Hospitality Management

This program prepares students for entry-level management responsibility in the dynamic field of hospitality. The curriculum emphasizes a broad base of industry skills built on a strong business core, customer relations skills, and creative problem solving. This associate’s degree can be completed in two years. FAQs

Tuition for the foundations level of this training program is 100 percent paid for by Salt Lake County. For high-potential employees already working in the hospitality industry in Salt Lake County, the pre-college training is 100 percent paid for and the AAS program tuition is covered at 50 percent. The County leadership saw a need to provide its large and growing hospitality industry with trained workers and is providing extensive support to help the industry thrive.

Completing training through this program offers benefits beyond free or reduced tuition. Depending on which level you are in, benefits include:

The funds used to pay for this initiative are considered a fellowship grant that may or may not be taxable to you, depending on your specific circumstances.
