Move to Management Certificate

The Move to Management series contains trainings tailored to help you gain the skills needed to move up into a management role or become a more effective supervisor/manager. This six-month series can be attended in sequence, or you may select the individual courses you feel you need to improve your management skills. The series will explore different types of communication in the workplace; how to tackle projects efficiently, become a better writer, and enhance your skills with coworkers and clients. Most classes are taught one day or one evening a week.

Description

Develop listening, writing and speaking skills in order to inspire others for business-specific outcomes. In so doing, cultivate the ability to achieve team goals.  The course combines online class preparation with in-class activities where students will assess communication situations, work in teams, and practice communication scenarios. Online coursework is required

  • Identify and challenge personal assumptions about communication and its place in the business world.
  • Read and respond to written and oral communication situations effectively and persuasively

  • Create effective documents and forms in accepted business style and forms for diverse writing situations

Get an introduction to practical tools and templates in a project-based approach to program management. This course is for potential-as well as experienced-project managers who want to get their projects completed on time, on budget and according to management expectations. Students are encouraged to come to class with a specific project in mind, although it is not a requirement. This is not a  certification course for PMI certification; rather, this is real-life, hands-on training relevant to anyone who manages projects. 

  • Learn how Project Management is the vehicle for change management
  • Differentiate between a project and a product
  • Identify all stakeholders and how each is impacted and will be kept informed
  • Create a Project Management plan
  • Outline a project kick-off agenda

Title Mindfulness and Stress Management

Description Mindfulness and meditation have been used for centuries to create healthy mind states. Growing research shows just how profound their affects may be. This course provides an introduction to the science and practice of mindfulness in the context of mental well-being. Students will practice various forms of mindfulness and meditation as well as other stress management techniques. By the end of the course, students will have built knowledge of how stress manifests in their lives and will have established a toolbox of coping skills to mitigate its deleterious effects.
