Certified Pool Operator

The Certified Pool Operator 11-hour course provides Certified and Registered Pool Operator (RPO) training as required by the Utah Department of Health and recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This comprehensive training program covers pool and spa management, regulations, testing, chemistry calculations and chemical feed, contamination and disinfection, water balance, circulation and filtration, heating and air conditioning, maintenance and troubleshooting, and state and federal governmental statutes. Participants from other states are welcome.

Participants must pass an examination given at the end of the training to receive their certification, which is valid for a period of five years. The course fee includes a training manual, which is a valuable resource and reference to troubleshoot a broad spectrum of functional problems.

Note! All CPO courses and recertification courses are offered live on campus or via a concurrent live webinar. Participants who attend by webinar need a computer with Internet access, a Gmail account, speakers, a microphone, and webcam, and will receive instructions on how to join the webinar after registration. Only the registered student may attend the webinar.

FAQs

The Certified Pool Operator course is offered once per month January through October and on an as-needed basis in December (no course in November). Please refer to the home page for dates.

The book is included in the price of the course.

Bring a calculator. There are calculations that need to be done to determine proper chemical levels for the pool.
All classes are held at Miller Campus in the Miller Corporate Partnership Center (MCPC) building room 110. 
Anyone who operates a public pool or spa, including apartments, townhomes, hotels, motels and retirement homes.
After successfully completing the training, participants must apply to the Department of Health in the County they work in to receive their license. Please contact your local Department of Health for the specific requirements.

A full refund is available if notice of cancellation is emailed to mykel.severson@slcc.edu a minimum of 48 hours prior to the start of the course.  Students are allowed to transfer to another month if they cannot attend the course they registered for.
