Program Details

Louisiana is a state rich in history, culture, cuisine, music, geography, and biology. A Taste of Louisiana offers far more than just an introduction to the many foods unique to this state, the course will also provide students with a taste of many other aspects of this fabulous state.

Students will spend one week in Louisiana where they will listen to live jazz music, et many new and delicious foods every day and go on a Cajun food tour, and tour the following: New Orleans French Quarter, cemeteries, National World War II Museum, swamps, plantations, and a historic Cajun village. Part of the day will also be spent providing service to local charities.

This promises to be an experience students will remember for a lifetime. A minimum of eight students is required for the trip to occur.

All participants will be enrolled in DSD 2900: A Taste of Louisiana, Summer Semester (2 credit hours).

Program costs include round trip airfare from Salt Lake City to New Orleans, local transportation, all lodging, program-related excursions, entrance fees and some meals! It does not include tuition fees, baggage fees, souvenirs, other meals, or non-program related travel, etc.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for this program, all participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Complete application packet
  • Provide proof of health insurance

Participants are required to attend all pre-departure orientation sessions/classes as well as all scheduled educational and cultural learning activities. In addition, students must complete all course requirements as assigned by the program leader.

Cancellation/Withdraw

If you need to withdraw from a Domestic Study program you may be refunded depending on how far in advance you are withdrawing. There are costs associated with each trip. Some of these costs are non-refundable. Advanced payments on each student's behalf may not be reimbursed if a student withdraws or is unable to participate. Students are responsible for all non-refundable advanced payments. If a student is unable to participate for any reason, SLCC reserves the right to determine the amount of refund, if any.
