Community Engagement Leave

Salt Lake Community College is committed to partnering with and helping strengthen the communities in which we work and live. Service to and involvement in the community is part of our mission and values.

We encourage SLCC employees to become engaged in our communities, lending your voluntary support to programs that enrich the quality of life and opportunities for all citizens.

  • Community Engagement Leave (CEL) is an employee benefit that allows and encourages full-time SLCC employees to give back to our community through volunteer work. 24 hours of paid leave are available for you to use each fiscal year.
  • Community Engagement Leave is a great way to grow personally and professionally. Use your skills to support the community or find a cause you care about.
  • You may volunteer any time with your supervisor’s prior approval. CEL is a great option during the December break (instead of or in addition to PTO).
  • The Thayne Center has a list of more than 125 Community Partners! If you have an organization you’re already supporting, it’s also easy for them to become a partner.
  • Regular weekly commitments or one time opportunities are available.
  • Supervisors are encouraged to support your staff to use their CEL benefit.
