Secondary Teacher Transition to Teaching
Great News! Educators pursuing a Professional Educator License (PEL) through the Alternative Pathway to Professional Educator Licensing (APPEL) now have two training options at SLCC for 2025:
New 2025 APPEL Courses (not-for-credit, funding available, competency-based, MIDAS-tracked)Old 2020 APPEL Courses (credit-based, available only through July 2026)
Yes, you may be able to mix and match Old 2020 APPEL Courses and New 2025 APPEL Courses. Check with your APPEL Licensing Director.
Important: If you are currently completing the old APPEL courses, you must finish them before July 2026. After that date, only the new courses will be available.
Funding options may be available starting July 1, 2026, and could cover 25% to 50% of the course cost.
