ENGL 1010 - INTRO TO WRITING (EN)

Credits: 3
Development of critical literacies-reading, writing and thinking using methods of knowledge-making. Promotes awareness of rhetorical strategies as they apply to a variety of socio-cultural contexts.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Attendance, Participation, and Homework:
    • It is important to attend at least 90% of class sessions.
    • On average, you are required to complete two hours of homework outside of class for every class credit. Some assignments may require more time, some less.
    • Participate in class discussions, activities, and collaborative tasks.
  • Assignments:
    • Complete between 3 - 5 main writing assignments.
    • Complete multiple reading, research, and writing assignments that contribute to main writing assignments.
    • Make substantive revisions on writing assignments.
    • Copy-edit all final revisions of main assignments.
  • Exams:
    • There are no exams in English composition courses.
    • Some sections have quizzes on readings or research.
    • In addition to the SLCC ePortfolio, many sections of English composition courses require the submission of final portfolio of your course work.
