Career and Major Exploration

Welcome! You will find lots of information here about the academic and career aspects of SLCC areas of study. If you need additional information please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you are undecided about a major, don’t panic - you are not alone!  Here are some resources to help you get started:

Attend a Career Clues Workshop (one hour) at the Redwood Advising Office (SC 240). This free session will cover career assessments, job outlooks, and how to navigate the Internet to find career information. To find out when the Career Clues are offered, click here!

Visit the Career and Major Fair in March 27, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Student Event Center, Redwood Campus.  Talk with faculty, advisors, and staff representing over 70 different majors and programs at SLCC.  Don’t miss the free food and prizes!

Take a Career Assessment at the Academic Advising offices at Redwood, South City or Sandy campuses.   The Myers Briggs Type Indicator relates your personality type to careers. The Campbell Interest Skill Survey relates your skills to your interests.  After you take these assessments, an advisor will discuss the results with you.

Use SLCC’s Desktop “CHOICES”, which is a free online career interest profiler available on the computers on the second floor of the Student Center at Redwood or at the computers next to Advising at South.  This program includes good scholarship info as well!

Select introductory courses from this list.

Meet with an Academic and Career Advisor to discuss your values, interests and skills. Please call 957-4978 to set up an appointment.
