Please Note: As of July 1, 2006, ASL challenge tests will no longer be offered on a walk-in basis at the Assessment Center. Students wishing to test out of ASL 1010 and/or 1020 will need to contact the ASLI department for an appointment to take the Challenge Test.
Students who have signing skills prior to enrollment at SLCC, whose credit does not transfer may challenge the beginning ASL courses. Challenge Tests are available for ASLI 1010 and 1020 only.Procedures:
Contact the department at mark.jones@slcc.edu for available appointments. As of July 1, 2006, tests will be offered in the ASLI department which is located in the Administration Building at Redwood Campus. Test will take approximately 2 hours.
ASL Challenge Test Fee: $25
Deadlines for Taking ASL Challenge Tests:
For Spring Semester Enrollment: Nov 30
For Summer Semester Enrollment: April 30
For Fall Semester Enrollment: July 31
Grading:
There are 3 portions to the ASL challenge tests: written, receptive & expressive. Students must score 80% or better on all parts to pass. Students will be notified by mail their results of the challenge test.
Retakes:
If a student does not receive a passing score on an ASL challenge test, they may retake the challenge test after a 6 month waiting period. The cost to retake a failed challenge test is $50.
